    Default Whislter FAIL

Looks like it was off axis CO because all whistlers have a distinctive pulse I/O audio detection feature.

It is one of the best I/O detectors btw.

Just wish my 78 SE performance wasn't so spotty. I had a few similar experiences with the brand.

Glad the officer was being very generous this day.

and that I wasn't speeding when mine happened

So this was you in the encounter? What Whistler where you running? You say this is one of the best for IO, but you got caught with what, random IO? I think for CO radar most any RD will do the job.

I wasn't running it. I found this posted by a whistler owner over on YT

But yes IME whistlers are very quick on I/O and q/t

Not quite as good as the segmented detectors but very very good for the money.

    off axis not so good.

I have had similar off axis problems with my whistler 78 SE

as I said already I do not believe this is I/O from my experience with the brand.

Yeah from that video he was running C/O!Whistler,like you said they have a special urgent 3 second audio alert warning for I/O radar burst.I was testing my old Whistler 1710 model a few months ago and a moto L.E.O. shot me with a Stalker M.D.R. hand held and all 3 of my LED's were flashing with that 3 second urgent tone.

Yup, that's exactly what I mean. Whistler has had this feature for ages.

I think it's a really cool feature that Whistler incorporated in their R.D.'s.What would be really cool if Escort and V-research could make their own special feature of I/O or Pulse warnings for their units.

I totally agree. I always likes that feature myself. Bell at one time had a similar feature copied after the whistler a bit but not as distinctive or good. I don't even believe they offer it any more on their detectors.

That is not a problem really because it was no where as good quality a alert to I/O as the whistler I/O alert.

When that goes off you know exactly what it is !

Bell directly stole the idea from whistler but apparently they couldn't copy it exactly or whistler would have sued them. It was never as good as whistler's version though. They really got it down. Ya I have been around for a while to see all this stuff play out. Funny is new detectors are only now starting to match up to the old x and k models. It has taken rd companies ages to figure out how properly to detect the superwideband without the alerts driving you nuts!

That's funny you say the new R.D.'s are only starting to match up to the old X,K band models because yesterday I broke out my old 1990 Cobra TrapShooter x,k only and my 1989 vintage Escort x,k only to see how well the would match up to my V-1.The good news is i got video of me running the test on a K-band speed sign on the highway.i'll be posting for everyone to see.
