V1 Laser Diodes

If I understand correctly, the newest V1s have 3 laser diodes as opposed to 6 found in the older models. My question is- how are 3 diodes as effective as 6? I am so technically challenged that if anyone asked me what a diode was, I would probably answer an ode on the way to cashing out. Oh well. Drive safely and happy motoring.

The newer V1's have a great big lense over the laser detection diodes, whereas the older (1.7) v1's didn't.
