Does enabling POP on Escort X50 increase Ka sensitivity

Hi All! First off I am new to this forum so again HI!!! Great information here. Thanx Roy...it was primarily your website that pushed me to acquire the X50...the one time I got pulled over since I got it was because I didn't pay attention. However I did manage to talk my way out of the ticket...lol.

Anyway my question has to do with activating POP. If I activate POP on the X50 does this increase the overall sensitivity on the Ka band? I ask this because I would like a little more time to react versus the trade off increase in false alarms. Thanx!!

Good question, I really don't know. Will have to try this out. The POP will enable a signal to pass through faster with the POP alert (less filtering)

The normal mode before the detector would active the signal would have to pass through the filtering.

My guess that it would be a little faster but the trade off would be an increase in false alerts

Called Escort today...they informed me that enabling POP would increase Ka band sensitivity. However it would increase the rate of false alarms. When I asked what might be the major source of the false alarms I was informed that false alarms would be mainly created by off shore drilling rigs. As I live in the high desert of Utah I don't believe that this will be a major problem..lol! I was also told that there was only about 400 or so POP guns being used in the U.S. Primarily Nevada and Oregon. Great info...pleasant and helpful staff at Escort. I just talked with an radio tech expert here in Finland and he assured to me, that the pulse lenght in POP radar feature is 150 ms NOT 67 ms. It was 67 ms in the bginning but regulations pushed it up to 150 !!!!!

Most of the problems concerning false alarming, detectability etc. is consequense of old detector engineering from 80's.

He said that newest components for microwave designing gives an possibility to make accurate and non-detectable detector up to 40 GHz. The new components with modern designing makes it detectors expencive manufacture than the detectors at the moment but we all are paying the price in other way at the moment ;c)

At any reate, there is little difference. My recommendation: turn off any bands etc that are not necessary.

DET, i too heard about the 40ghz bs gun, however it cannot be used in US because the FCC currently does not allow the use, its outside the Ka range assigned to the leo's. It could be licensed later but it will take a while most likely couple of years, but the gun doesn't exist yet

Hey guys,
I know that the overall sensitivity is slightly reduced on Ka band, with PoP mode activated. What about K band? My X50, which is very good on K band already, seems even better with PoP mode enabled. Anyone ever tested K band out??? Thx, Scott
