I just bought the whistler xtr560 and look forward to trying it out. However, apparently the law in minnesota says that you can't have anything hanging from your windshield.... Is it even worth mounting it on the dash? (I hear that the performance would suffer) OR should I ignore the law and just go ahead and mount it below my rear view mirror as planned....

# United States law varies from state to state, but detectors are generally legal under the Communications Act of 1934. Exceptions:

* Illegal in all vehicles: Virginia, Washington D.C., Carlsbad Caverns National Park
* Illegal in commercial vehicles: Illinois, New York (specifically, commercial vehicles over 10,000 lb. and all vehicles over 18,000 lb.)
* Indirectly illegal: Minnesota (illegal to hang anything from the windshield)

Anyways let me know what you guys think

I would mount it high, so that it just "peeks" out below the tint line of your windshield. Harder to notice up there, but still good performance, in fact better performance as far as radar is concerned. just my $0.02

Only if its a secondary type offense to put something on your winshield then go ahead and do it.

This is what the law reads for Mn, so proceed at your own risk. IMHO, I think you could mount high, and be ok

I assume that I would have to hardwire the bad boy if I mounted it up high...Is this an accurate assumption?

I assume that I would have to hardwire the bad boy if I mounted it up high...Is this an accurate assumption?no, you don't have to...but the cord running all the way up your windshield might give the Leos' a clue
Hardwiring is easy, and looks so much better. Here is a pic of mine. http://www.radardetector.net/X50-hardwire-pics-15500t.php

I have never, ever been talked to about my RD or my air freshiner. I really dont think mn leo's really care. I would avoid mounting it high if you arent going to hardwire it, personally it would piss me off, and it would draw attention. Welcome to the forum.

when you say high do you mean above or below the rearview mirror?

This is an old picture when I had my 1.7 V1. Since I have re-wired it and the cord is no longer wrapped around the RVM post.

This is a bad picture of where my remote display is. It is behind the factory honda clock.

Easy solution!

(assuming it works w/the new XTR's) And hardwire it.
