I pull up to this late model Mercedes C280 Kompressor and he has his very cheap ($40) Whistler mounted in the middle of his windshield and its pointed straight up towards the sky. When did UFO's start running speedtraps from the sky? I tried to tell him but the idiot wouldnt roll down his window for me to explain him that his set up is all wrong and learn to spend a few more $$$ on a quality detector like my V995.

Since when was a C280 a nice car... 560 SEC is where it's at 8)

its not like he was driving a kia and not expected to know how to mount a RD. He looked like a educated person with his cigar but then again I shouldnt judge a book by its cover. I would atleast think he had a freakin clue? I guess he had 3 strikes against him.

1). Male driving in a females mercedes...C280 Kompressor.

2). $40 Wal-Mart Whistler UFO 360 deg. detecter.

3). Looking for UFO's running radar.

i love seeing a car with the detector pointed straight up. it gives me a good laugh.

Personally, I don't consider the C280 in the nice car category. The 350 (better engine) and definitely the C55, but any other C class is not impressive.

The owner is probably maxing out on his/her lease payment just so he/she can say they drive a Mercedes, and doesn't have any money left for the radar detector.

As for pointing the detector at the sky... Maybe it's just for show???

You probably scared the crap out of them. Next time put the bat down when you knock on their window :) (only kidding – or get a bigger bat?)

:)

A guy I work with drives a Mustang GT 80 something. Real, real nice car an that's saying a lot coming from me. With a fricken cobra, I showed him my setup and he thinks that an RD is an RD and I wasted my money. Oh well they aren't my tickets.

another great piece of wisdom passed onto me by my Grandfather

really if its a car engineered in Asia, for me its gotta be Japanese, and of course most japanese cars are made in America (For the North American market atleast) while a bunch of the American cars seem to be made in Mexico or Canada, I actually pass the GM plant in Arlington every day so I know there are some still from here

really Ill only buy Japanese, German, English (High end only), Italian or American.............I cant trust a Korean car, much less a Korean person for that matter

its either they go ****ty or ride in style..have only seen the following in nice cars by me(v1, x50, and cobras)...if they have cobras they are mounted low meaning they know nothing but if they have the good etector like x50 or v1 they are mounted middle or high

Well then, unfortunately I must say you are ignorant to today's automotive industry because Hyundai makes very good cars now. You need to get out of the past and the blind "Korean = crap" mentality.

Hyundai/Kia are improving pretty quickly now... but in any case, lots of Japanese cars made in Canada, Honda has a big plant in Ontario, and Toyota has a big plant in Ontario, and Toyota also has another big plant in... Ontario  In fact Ontario makes more cars than Michigan to the south...

St. Louis X50 and I have talked of how we hate to see this but seem to keep coming across these types of people. Maybe there are some out there who don't know that they have to adjust (bend) the window unit until the radar detector is PERPENDICULAR w/ the road. So should we start offering rd mounting classes across the globe?

cooljay
09-12-2006, 06:14 PM
When I got my Whistler the window mount itself was at an angle that would point it up towards the sky so I had to bend the mount a little for it to be level. I am thinking that the default user does the "plug and play" sort of deal where they just mount it on the window, plug it in and go without reading the user manual.

I think that when these people buy the detectors, they just stick them in the window, and leave them at whatever angle they happen to be at.

Lets just say... being a pizza delivery driver offers alot of oppertunities to... lets say... remember those that are rude, in a passive way....

Make sure to tip ur driver well, they will remember your house, and rush your pizza to you when taking multiple deliveries knowing they will get the best tip/a sure tip, vs taking them in order. That, or if you like your pizza cold, I guess you can save yourself a few bux on the tip.

We drivers get paid 1 dollar per delivery, regardless if its across the street, or 10 miles in the next city, and minimum wage too. I hate gas prices... they are so anit-delivery.

dont ya know the rivalry between us Japanese and the Koreans.............. there is no greater hate really, we're just born to hate eachother, im sure theyre fine cars, but as long as Honda is around, ill pick that "H" over that curvy Korean rip off wannabe H....but for the record, I was directly refering to Kia, Hyundai was I guess just implied

oh and im not ignorant, just narrow-minded         (oh and Picky too  )

so far i think i have everyone beat on the worst radar mounting ever, so as i enter West Plano Texas (one of the richest parts of America, i dont live there btw) and i see this nice 7 serious BMW with a X50, but this wasnt you everyday mount setup, this RD was suction cupped to the passenger window!!!!   I thought i was goin to have a heart attack i was laughing so hard, just by how ridiculus it looked. here this rich @$$ is with a NICE RD mounted to the passenger window. but i bet he gets the best detection from LEO's parked directly to the right of him and im sure he could nail a Walmarts door sensor driving by a whole lot better then a STI could    i still laugh when i think about this.

In my lifetime, I have seen one exception to the nice car/crappy detector rule... Recently for a fundraiser, our Roller Hockey Team did vallet parking for an event that invited only the top 200 donors to the Art Museum. I mean there were some nice cars here, and the nicest car we didn't even get to park :(

This guy pulls up in his Maserati, parks right by the door and immediatly gives his keys to our Coach (who's the most respectful looking guy in this bunch of hockey players). He said something smart ass like "Don't touch it or move it". Well the guy goes inside and everyone rushes to gawk at the car. I glance over and spot a radar detector on his windshield. Half expecting to find a crapra, I peek inside and see a V1. Granted it was mounted a little low for my personal preference and wasn't hardwired but that's the only time I've seen a nice ride w/a top 3 detector.

When I told my teammates that I had the same detector in my POS 92 Accord that this dude had in his Maserati, I got some weird looks.

I keep mine mounted middle or high depending on where I am.... I also keep it slightly tilted to the left for easy viewing. If I mount it perfectly It sometimes bothers me that I struggle to read it. I must see it perfectly or it bothers me. It's ok for me to tilt right??? Does anyone else do this too?

Don't ever forget that MOST of the owners of the high-end cars buy them just to SHOW-OFF, to let the entire world see that they got more money than anybody else... obviously I have no problem with anybody's financial assets, how they make the money is their own business, but when I see a Masseratti, or Lamborghini, or Porsche Carrera, or a Benz 500, etc., driven by an 80 yo granny who can hardly see what's ahead, or by a younger fellow but at a speed that a simple Russian car would do it perfectly, that stuff really infuriates me, they could have very well bought a normal car and donate the rest of the money to any charity of their own choice... or get into a taxi that will take you way faster than your Flinstone way of driving!!!
BTW, couple of days ago on XM sat radio, I think was on ch 6 (the 60's) or 7 (70's), the DJ talked about Oprah Winfrey (she is gonna have her own show on XM soon, not that I give a damn on Oprah, Dr. Phil and other gotta-be-on-welfare to watch my show during normal business hrs), that last time Oprah got gas for her car, on her own, with her own hands, was in 1983!

I'm not sure if I actually saw this or if it was a dream I had last night. But it was a bmw m3 with a cobra velcroed to the dash and it wasn't even facing straight.

My friends mom did that with her cobra, it faces right and down.... and the thing never ever goes off not even when passing a cop doing radar. It never even falses for anything..

actually today when i was at Best Buy i parked next to a new corvette and i looked inside and saw a V1 and i waited for him to get out of his car and i also got out and said got a V1 there and he kind of gave me a bad look like i was planning on stealing it, then he looked inside my car to see mine and smiled and said yep, its great. turns out he was at Best Buy to return his X50. he said it worked great but the V1 was smaller and looked better in the Vette. I offered to buy the X50 from him for 200. I guess even rich people would rather return it and get the full price back then sell it to someone "less Fortunate" :D
