Here are some updates!

Whistler is coming out with a new motorcycle unit also this summer.

Will have a heads up display similar to the HARD system

Will be waterproof

Will have mounting features for standard handlebar mount

The unit is modular (concealed unit) with seperate antenna and display

Me too.

I always strive to be the "best" in what I do, and I firmly believe that the detector manufacturers should be doing likewise. I know Mike V. did, and I hope Escort/Bel makes a product that exceeds all others. And then I hope that "all others" will make a product so innovative and effective that it blows it's competition out of the water.

Which in the end produces a better product for all... yay!

I'm surprised that Bel/Escort is coming out with one now rather than later in the year when valentine's dual antenna patent expires. (October, I believe) I would have thought Bel would want to jump on that. Maybe a new one then too?

Where did you hear this? Is this really true?

A patent normally lasts 17-20 years depending on when it was filed etc. I believe V1's "dual antenna" patent (5083129) was granted in 1992, the same year V1 was first produced. This would mean that the earliest it could possibly expire is 2009? Now the case design wasn't patented until 1993 (D338841), and a "design patent" only lasts 14 years, so that one could expire in 2007. The earliest patent granted to Valentine Research listed in the back of the V1 manual is from 1989...

Or am I missing something here?

Roy, I have contacted VR about the Spectre issue as they informed me that Spectre has promised to change the frequency upon any countermeasures.

Drat, you certainly bust my bubble. I was under the impression that a utility patent lasted only 11 years. So much for that.

That would make Spectre 4!
