Has anybody 'inside information' are we going to see anything special in CES this year. I mean in the detector front ....

Just some rumors that I have been hearing

1: Autowave (company that makes Whistler, Cobra, PNI) is going to showcase a combo GPS/Radar Detector. Cobra is suppose to be buying off on this unit. The unit will be able to track GPS locations of fixed speed camera locations and red lights.

2: PNI is coming out with a new cordless detector that will be able to detect the new POP guns.

Nothing on the Spectre front yet, however I did speak to a company rep (who does not want to me to identify) that says that they are hoping for the 2nd quarter of 2005 to have a new unit that can beat the spectre

In Holland there is a new detector out called DSI. Our lab tests show that this device does not transmit any leakage between the 10 and 20 Ghz. I have tested this Dutch made detector called DSI and results on Gatso and Multanova photoradar are amazing! For more information see www.stinger.com. They detector is though extremely expensive!

That is the coolest detector, gps, computer i've ever seen. It would be very cool to see Roy and/or SML test it.

We had contacted the company in the UK about being the US Dealer for the Road Angel. The pricing was outrageous!

The units would had cost over $1200. each US

Now I understand that a good GPS will run that much, but the GPS feature is not as good on the RA and ones currently being sold in the US.

I hope that Autowave is still planning on coming to the show with the new unit..

Extremely expensive? Really not, if Spectre invisibility is guaranteed. You said there is no leakeage between 10-20 GHz, but what about other areas? I really don't want be caught by some upgraded Spectre within next years.

Coolest thing is that your RD software can be deleted with one button. But does the "spectrum analyzer" have powers still on, and leak something for police officers to sniff? I really don't like the situation, where police patrol has stopped me, and is asking my RD. "No officer, I dont have any RD. But I have this GPS Stinger". And the respone is "Oh yeah, but why our Spectre is still yelling within few yards behind you?"

They have doubled RD performance since their previous version, but how does this compare to market leaders Bel RX65, Escort 8500 and V1? We really need some test results...

...but YES! I hope this wake up's those big RD manufacturers! There is a danger that they lose all oversea markets. The can't go on with their market idea "Spectre is no danger, customer's don't need Spectre invisibility".

Stinger used to sell the Beltronics products that were specifically made for the Dutsch Market. The Bel 615 and later the 815 would be called Stinger Ventura here. Later another company, named Target Automotive took over the dealership and is calling this detector the Target 966. Now it is based on the Bel 975 and it is called Target 966 evo.

Stinger is very well known in Holland. So now they developed there own detector and I have driven with it and the range is amazing!. Also the antenne is of a complete new design. No more horns, but patch antennas.

I wish the RD Industry had of invested the time into developing a solution to the Spectre rather than dismissing it or downplaying it's importance.
They ALL still brag about VG2 immunity on their web sites....WHO CARES....are there any more VG2's in service? I doubt it.
The RD industry was caught napping and rather than admit it all they did was "verbal damage control" SMS is laughing...all the way to the bank.
The Stalcar (Spectre) has been in use in Australia for years, so it's not like they didn't see it comimg.

I can assure you that they have been working on the Spectre for over two years. Beating it is not as simple as you may think because of the broad spectrum the Spectre scans. We have tested a number of protypes from a number of companies, none have been successful to date.

I keep hearing that relief is on the way, just don't know when...

Yay! Maybe now I can put my Uniden LRD 9000 W back where it belongs...

The big problem with Spectre is that it's a tough nut to crack, but also the USA has really opened up on the detector front compared to many years ago. Connecticut allows them now, so do a lot of other states, just Va and Washington, DC don't like 'em, so there is little demand.

But I want one!

$1200.00 US is a little steep for me to test something out that I am not going to sell. If someone has access to one perhaps I can get it tested in a couple of weeks at Speed Labs. I am going to be there working with Carl on some new tests on jammers and detectors

Sorry to disappoint You, but I've talked with Stinger guys. Antenna is tuned to direct receive for 24,125 GHz and 34,3 GHz in Ka ONLY

No superwide Ka AT ALL. So no use with it in USA or Finland either ....

PNI is coming out with a new cordless detector that will be able to detect the new POP guns.... as in the pop guns that are in already in use today? or new ones...

The PNI POP cordless was tested at SML in January and it did defeat POP when the unit was PLUGGED IN!

I understand that PNI has now done some testing with the unit not plugged in and it will NOT detect POP.

Yeah, I was actually under the impression that the current silver bullet unit could detect POP, not a future one. The little blurb about it on the shelf at Best Buy said that it would anways.

Radar Roy, is there anything that you have heard that would make me want to delay on buying a new x50? I know it's one of the best on the market right now but i don't want to spend a few hundred dollars now and then 3 months from now not have one of the top detectors.
