I am looking forward to your new Radar detecetor test in March. But I was kind of dissapointed in reading in another post that you will not be testing Laser Detection.

I am really surprised that Laser detection is treated as a redheaded step child, when Lidar use is becoming more and more common. There is very little to none Laser testing out there.

I would love to see a test on how we can optimize on picking up on laser scatter, such as what is the optimal distance of having a vehicle in front of you to pick up scatter

Bob the VEIL Guy did a very comprehensive laser test not too long ago.

http://www.laserveil.com/laser/detectors/performance/charts-by-radar-detector/

Although Guys of LIDAR might do laser detection tests in the future, these will most likely be limited to which detector can detect laser the best.

As far as picking up scatter, there are so many variables involved that it would be difficult to impossible to do any kind of a conclusive test on it. Although a test could be done to determine an optimal following distance under a set of specific conditions, the same results would not apply if you were following a different size/shape/color vehicle, you are driving a different size/shape/color vehicle, the officer was targeting from a different location, etc etc etc.

Are you guys surprised by that or what, because I'm not.

no i think we have all seen enough of those tests.

It would be nice to see the difference in the 9500i and 8500 X50 since they supposedly improved on it.

I think that laser alerts are very overated. Many people think that each time they are alerted to laser and they don't get pulled over it is a save, but really most of the time the LEO is just not intrested. I have to say that i am glad my RX65 isn't more sensitive it has gone off everytime i have been hit with laser and that is enough for me.

The best you can really hope for with a laser encounter and no countermeasures is an LEO with a sloppy aim at the vehicle in front of you possibly setting off your detector (V1), or driving at a speed under the LEO's threshold to come and get'cha.

Yeah Bob nailed this test so good and set the bar so high that it can not be topped. Why mess with perfection?
