I am new to this form, so here it goes. I live in Mesa Arizona. I have a V1 which is about 5 years old. Its version is 2.879 and it works just fine. I’ve loved every moment we’ve spent together driving from sea to shinning sea. However, I just received my first ticket in 14 years. It was a beautiful photo of myself behind the wheel of my car. My Valentine One failed me. Yes I heard nothing my little black beauty.

Today, I just got back from LA where it seems there are more red light photo intersections than homeless people and my V1’s KA band went off every time. So what gives in Scottsdale Tempe and Mesa, AZ for that matter? Why does my trusty sidekick the V1 not even peep when I sail down the photo laden intersections of Arizona? Yet it reminds me of a woman and won’t shut up when I’m in California.

Please help

Go here an type in your serial number:

http://valentine1.com/upgrades/

Read what it tells you about what upgrades you need and maybe you will learn why your V1 may be lacking in certain areas. I would then encourage you to sell it on Ebay for top dollar and get a brand new V1 that has been returned for $50 off of retail price. Problem solved! :)

Most red light cameras use sensors embedded in the pavement, not radar. I don't know about the systems in use in AZ, maybe someone in the area will chime in...

That definitely seems the better way to go... seems most will pay more than enough for the process to be worth it. And you can order the new V1 first, then sell the old one when you get it so you won't have to without.

Keven,
I drive by red light cameras in Fremont Ca. Never ran one but I think it has flashed at other people and my V1 has never gone off. I believe Jim is right again.
Do not get rid of your 2.879 as that is the exact same unit I have. 97 upgrade front laser only.
I tried a 3.818 in Feb and sent it back because of multiple K bands on a single issue.
Laser is also more false happy.
For now I will just keep plugging away at my 1.7 until forced to upgrade.

Was your photo ticket for speeding or a red light violation?

Not all red light cameras use radar. I would guess most don't. Photo speed enforcement usually uses radar, but it could use laser or in-road sensors, but I would expect that radar is the most common type, and your V1 should detect that.
