View Full Version : Are radar detector legal in UAE (Dubai) and UK style radar

Been living in Canada all my life (Toronto) and I have been offered a position in Dubai. I'm a construction manager, so it works hand and hand with Dubai.

I have a Bel STi and 2 V1 1.8 with euro mode.

Are radar detector legal in Dubai?

I know they use a lot of speed cameras so a GPS will solve that.

The V1 should be programmed in Euro mode for service there?

I did a search and this has not been confirmed and I don't know where to start my search on the web.

I'll still be posting, but just from a different time zone.

Thanks

I think I just answered my own question as they are illegal, now do they have spectre or VG - 2?

Read this article "Hot cobras lets speeding motorist beat radar".

It seems they use Ku band and POP in Dubai.

I wouldn't trust neither the sellers there or (especially) the media. The seller just wanted to sell the Ku + POP versions.
When you go there, if you ask A LOT of sellers, you MIGHT get some info.

Congrats TRC. :D So I take it you will need Ku band detection then? The V1 is great on Ku band. If you see some Ku band there, please take a pic for us to see. I have always wanted to see a firsthand pic of Ku band TRC. Wish the best to your TRC and keep us posted. It was a lot of fun last weekend. :D :D :D

No more speeding fines with the hot new Cobra.

Congrats on that position, i've always wanted to visit Dubai....But yeah i don't think they have spectre or vg2, all i've heard is they visually spot them and pull you for it. But there is a lot of photo radar on k band. and a lot of multanova? i've seen some videos in dubai with k band, ka photo, and i didn't know ku band was being used....

Thanks all for the kind words. I saw videos of K and Ka but never Ku. Could just be the media making stories. I'll have it hidden in my luggage when I travel there.

I saw people with their detectors just attached openly on their windsheilds.

If I hide mine it should be fun. Buying an Audi S4, so they have the dash kit for the V1. German cars are really inexspensive over there.

I think you can get the STi sent in to be able to detect ku band if I'm not mistaken?

I'll have to call Bel on Monday to find out. They have my STi right now for the 33.8 bug fix.

You'd be surprised at the stuff that can make it through Customs.

If Spectre isn't in use, how about a remote install unit? They wouldn't be able to see it too easily from outside the car. Just be careful, I know in France they can seize the car but I'm not sure what UAE's laws are.

It seems the laws are very relaxed. I see all the vids with the RD in clear view and they all seem to use X50's.

I'll use my V1 with a concealed mounting. Keep the STi in Ontario because I'll be back in the Americas every 2 months.

Why do you need an RD aren't the speed limits like 160 km/h out there? I'd probably want to get some kind of GPS unit and mark out the boxes, a 9500i would be a nice integrated solution but if you have a satnav that's good enough or better.

Good point. With all honesty I have no clue what the speed limits are, but I do here they are much higher then the Americas.

Besides, I like my RD's for fun, most of the time it is to impress friends or make my drive more fun.

I don't think they're that high but I've heard speed enforcement on the highways is lax at best. Go to youtube and search for videos of dubai driving.

There is a video of a guy using an x50 in dubai and talking about how you should mount it for stealth. I'll try to search and find it.

I called Beltronics today, and they said a Ku band upgrade will not be available to the STi driver until Ku band is used in the USA.

I also asked if the STi-r concealed display is available for sale? They had no idea what I was talking about until I said it is in Europe and Asai right now but not North America.

Trying to find a Bel EU site but no luck.

This isn't an official site and I don't know how great it is but you can see the STi-r here:http://www.radarshop.com/en/nl/art/3071/Beltronics/Beltronics_STi-R_Remote.htm

The STi-r is €1,000 on that page!
