Well after several weeks I decided to shut off POP mode. Far too many J's.
Received 6+ the other day from a 9500i one car behind.

Theres a part of me that says "leave it on" and a larger part that says "shut this thing off".

Hopefully it's the right decision.

I'd say leave it off, it's far more annoying braking for J's...

Weird enough... I guess we live in different towns when it comes to detector population... I go around hunting for J's and I barely find any... I was overjoyed to get one today from a Uniden....

I rarely see J. Should I leave POP on?

Also, does having POP disabled really improve range on 3.863 or this only applies to older V1s?

Anyway, how does V1 give alert if you got hit by POP?

if u were to get hit by pop with pop on with a v1 it would just be like a regular alert..no special display of anything YouTube - Valentine One POP radar detection test (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ifl10fXxlkY)

What's the tuning fork for in the vid?

I normally get the J's on the Detroit area freeway system during rush traffic. So far Ive yet to get J'd by a Cobra that I have identified (not to say there hasn't been), the most severe was, oddly enough, the 9500i in a vette that was one car behind me. The J's were constant. I literally had to disable POP right then and there as we were in stop and go traffic.

The tuning fork is to make sure the radar gun is actually given enough time to give a reading... That is also a demonstration of how fast a modern radar gun locks :) Wanna try to outbrake that? :)

BTW, that video is shooting IO K, not POP.... The guy went to POP in the menu but forgot to push the up arrow (to turn it on). It's like putting your V1 into program mode, pushing the knob to 4 and just leaving it there to turn off laser detection :)

The Escort is filtering out short bursts of IO radar almost half the time, though the gun CAN obtain a reading in that time.

POP isn't turned on in the video he needed to press the up arrow to turn it on

POP on the v1 is like a normal instant-on k or Ka

This was one of the goons when he was partially corrupted. Mike Valentine had sent him an email telling him that he did not have POP mode properly turned on.

So is there any vid showing real POP detection?

I still don't understand the purpose of the tuning fork. Why do you need to give the gun enough time to give a reading? Isn't I/O = I/O? What will happen if you don't use the tuning fork and just shoot directly at the V1 with I/O or POP?

What if I trigger the gun for 0.01 seconds. Or 0.1 seconds. Can the gun even lock during this time? Is the gun even TRANSMITTING anything when you pull the trigger super fast?

The tuning fork simply makes sure the gun is actually working. No, you don't need to have the fork there to perform the test, but it's "proof" that the gun is actually working and any signal is being transmitted in a useful manner.

Maybe there is something wrong with your V1? has anyone else gotten an overabundance of POP alerts from a V1?

Eventually im going to guess all RD guns will have POP and we are all are going to need to leave it on. The V1 is the only RD to alert to all POP threats but if it goes off all the time that’s a waist.

Not I. I've gotten maybe 2 or 3 junk-outs total in the 3 months I've owned the V1, and those were all within the first couple of weeks.

Also, I have no idea what kind of RD caused them; because my car sits so low to the ground, I have a tough time seeing up inside the gargantuan SUVs that always seem to be the source of the junk-outs. :p

I do not believe there is anything wrong with the unit. The excessive, intolerable alerts came from a prolonged close range encounter with a 9500i in rush hour traffic. On the open road, it's pretty quiet although a definite increase in J out's as compared to disabled, which leads me to disable it after about a month. The V1's POP mode is by far more tolerable than my v995, which went off when the wind blew, I'm still just not sold on the absolute need to keep it enabled on the V1.

I think the solution for me may be to enable POP when outside of the Metro Detroit area like I do with X band.

When you disable POP, does it apply to A mode as well?

It's no different then disabling a band. It's disabled across the board.

I get a J-out 3-4 times a week to/from work.

I'm going to cut POP off and see if that helps.

Are you sure POP is not used in Metro Detroit?

There is rumor POP has been used out by Kalamazoo. I have only seen 35.5 Ka and K band in Metro Detroit. Never seen any BEE guns used around these parts.
