Hello I just picked up a escort 8500 x50 and was wondering what setting should i set everything on. I bought it used and the guy already had his setting set up. He turned off the X band. He said he left it off because it picks up all the false alarms.

what would you guys recommend doing to all the settings? thanks

We need more info.

Where are you located?

First reset the device to factory defaults and just use it for a while to see if X band is a problem where you live.

I would turn POP off too unless you are in Nevada or Ohio.

Turn on Expert mode so you can track multiple signals

Oh, and scanning dot display for the win!

Totally agree. Do a full reset, turn the unit off, hold down ALL 3 buttons, turn it back on. Expert, H scanning dots, POP off. City mode, used rarely, Lo X or No X.
Mount it high and hardwire it. Don't leave it up in the heat.

I had my scanning dot on tonight in H mode. Ka one bar...nothing....Ka three bar...nothing....Ka full blast and there are two cops on the left shoulder assisting a guy with a broken tire. The one bar really had me going. I am loving the ramp on these! Road turned very left and it was being picked up really early and held it long too. My 8500 didnt seem to hold signals as long as this one does which I like because it gives me an idea on distance.

I need to do expert mode soon to see what else is out there.

What's the revision number?

Turn "off" POP detection.

Look at the past GOL tests, and ask yourself whether if you're likely to even catch true POP use.

For the number of POP-falses you're likely to receive, it's just not worth it, particularly at-risk of the worst sin of detector usage - alert desensitization.

Unless you have a > Rev5, and your area actually sees TRUE USE of the MPH Enforcer's 67ms Ka-band POP (and even then, look at your actual chances of catching its true use, pretty dismal, no?), don't bother with it.

Treat POP as you would treat instant-on. Use good driving practices.
