Best RD For New York/New Jersey Area

Most of my driving is on NY/NJ Highways and I'm looking for the best RD to suit the type of Radar or Laser used in this area. I don't really want to spend the money for a V1 but the X50, RX65, V995, etc are all possibles. Any and all comments would be appreciated.

The V1 would have been better for detecting the increasing number of LIDAR units, but if you are planning on getting a jammer later then that's no biggie. I would recommend you go for the X50 if you are willing to let go of the $300. My dad seems to really like his. The Vector 995 is probably nearly as good in the range category but my undersanding is that the filtering on the X50 is far superior. The only thing that the X50 lacks is the potential to detect Ku band radar if/when it comes out. The 995 and RX65 do have that feature.

If I go for the X50 and Ku comes to the U.S. would I have to pay extra for the upgrade? I've read some posts on the Forum that Ku is expected sometime next year and Roy seems to think it's only a matter of time.

Ehh...tough to know. I guess it depends on whether they need to upgrade hardware to pick up Ku or if it's just a software thing. Escorts track record for "upgradeability" is less than stellar. Rather than upgrading the 8500 to pick up POP they came out with a whole new model. They could surprise us but I really wouldn't count on any kind of upgrade.

Thing is, it's hard to tell whether or not Ku detection even matters in the US. It's at least a year off if it comes at all, and just because a new gun is approved doesn't necessarily mean that anyone is going to put it into use. At the very least it will take several years to catch on. POP has been out since 2001 and is still hardly ever seen. So the big question is will Ku band even exist before detection technology changes and you'll want to replace whatever you get today anyway?

Thanks for the input. Like everyone else I don't want to be wasting money and would like to have a RD that isn't obsolete soon after I buy it.

BEL 995 or Escort X50 would be a great detector along with VEIL...my BEL svaed me countless times

Escort has confirmed that once the Ku threat comes out that they will be offering an upgrade for the band

I live in upstate NY and do some driving in Jersey too. I just bought an RX65 and the thing is AWESOME!!! Just my .02. Jersey uses X band remember so if you are in Jersey leave it ON.

Most LEOs in Jersey I know regard laser as an unnecessary PITA. Why aim when you can write as many tickets as you want at the push of a button? X-band range is really important in NJ due to the onramp shooting ahead K55 method used by NJSTs.
