Yeah, I would just tell them sorry I was test driving this car & the sales man can be the vouch. Hopefully the cop will go easy. Just tell him you make to make sure the tranny shifted under stress, no engine hesitation and all that good stuff.

Hey, we did that to a Trans Am in Las Vegas. Tranny blew smoke out the back and seized up.

Avis got us a hotel room for the night, rescheduled our flight (we were far from Las Vegas and speeding to make the airplane when the tranny blew). I only got worried when they said, "We'll make the adjustment to your bill." Ugh! :(

Shock was they sent me a "We're so sorry" letter and only charged me $15 for the two-day rental, tow, cab, hotel, and reschedule. Can't beat it! :)

Doh Im renting Enterprise. They were $100 cheaper then anyone else for my Age range. (21-24). Im not going to intentionally kill it, just beat it. Not my fault if it dies :D.

Neutral bombs used to be a sweet way to do a burn out in automatic cars. All you do is put the car in neutral red line the car then shift it into drive.

You'd never do this in your own car because you'll destroy the tranny, but it was fun in rentals while it lasted.

I rented a car once many years ago. Got it empty, so I immediately went and filled up the tank. About ten minutes later, the transmission stuck in first gear and would not shift any higher. I was only a couple blocks from the location, so I limped back to turn it in. I told them about the gas and they said, "sorry". No credit for the gas, and the next car they were going to give me was empty. I snatched the keys back and said, "FINE! I'll just drive this motherfocker until I've used my gas out of it!" They suddenly changed their minds real quick.

They don't give test drives for new Corvettes!!!! Everyone is afraid to buy one if it has more than 3 miles on it for fear of some over zealous test drives.

My dealer would not let me test drive the Vette till all the paperwork was done. I guess it was not a test drive then since I owned it. :D

When I test drove my first TA, a '98, I took the V1 along! I wanted to make sure the electrical system didn't cause any glitches. My '96 Grand Prix GTP was making my V1 go through the power up sequence. Turned out the alternator was going bad in the GTP.
