I stop by at radioshack today to see if they had any good police scanners and they didn't have any, and I didn't see any detectors either so I asked one of the guys that work there if they had any. He's like, oh yeah we only have 2 radar detectors but they're the best of the best. He brings me over to where they are and he's like, well we have a cobra (ESD7000) and a rocky mountain radar! " I personally use the cobra and it picks up all the cops within 360 degrees around my car, but I recomend the RMR because it scrambles all the police laser and radar 360 degrees as well." I was like scrambles? " yeah, means it will show zero on his radar and you wont get pulled over unless your doing 100 or something"

What I don't get is the ESD cobra had a $120 price tag and there supposed to be like $40

Thats just embarrasing.

However, I did see a RS employee recommend the Bel 995 to a customer which was nice. I'm sure they sell a lot of cobras.

Seriously. They should just change their name to "Cellphone and iPod Shack" and be done with it. That's all the idiots working there know anything about anymore, and they barely know that.

A couple months back, I walked in to RS to pick up an antenna connector. Luckily I knew where it was, because the MANAGER had no idea what I was talking about. As we walked to the register, he looks at the scanner on my belt and proceeds to try and sell me "a newer cellphone!"

Honestly, I don't see how they can even stay in business much longer. The things that people specifically go to a Radio Shack for, they hardly ever carry, and never know anything about. And who would go to Radio Shack for a Cellphone or iPod when every mall, BestBuy, and Circuit City has cellphones and iPods cheaper?

X2 man, I remember when you could ask them where the resistors were and they actually knew WHAT you were talking about. Now-a-days they're just focusing on cellphones and satellite radio :/

Interestingly I had a "good" encounter at RS this morning. I went there just to pick up a 12v plug splitter and when I walked in there was a salesman standing off to the side who didn't say a word to me, and I noticed a woman behind the counter so I went directly to her.

As I approached the counter, I noticed that she was without a doubt the most beautiful blond saleswoman that I've ever seen in any RS! I looked at her, then the other salesman and said "Wow, this has got to be the most beautiful saleswoman I've EVER seen at Radio Shack!" After a very friendly smile and hello, I told her what I wanted and she walked me directly to it without any hesitation at all.

Needless to say I was very impressed! (and she knew her products too)...

its not just RadioShack......its ANY large corporate chain store these days. they hire at **** wages, and get **** employees. it costs the big wigs much less to use these morons, and makes it easy to replace them...so they really don't give a rats behind if you're frustrated or not with their incompetance.

Its everywhere nowadays from the tards at Dunkin' Donuts that can't seem to give you the right coffee, even when you say "Black, No Sugar".......to the megatards at AutoZone that know less about auto repair than my grandmother. I can't STAND the employees at AutoZone and usually refuse to even converse with them other than at the checkout....its more frustration trying to explain something completely fundamental that you'll usually have to locate yourself anyway, than to just ignore them and get what you need.

Customer Service is a joke nowadays....and frankly its the only way I rate better companies from others. If their CS is great, I'll use them forever, and I don't care if it costs a little extra. It shows a HUGE difference in service and care for the customer...which use to be the norm.

Yep, had the same situation when I got a cell phone there recently. An older employee had to show the "manager" how to do everything. He was complaining about how RS had cut off all sorts of benefits and employee perks over the last ten years. He was also pretty upset still over the lack of a catalog. I was glad he was there b/c I thought to ask for a firewire cable for my dv camera. He joked with the manager saying "You don't know what that is, do you?" It was pretty funny...

Yea, autozone pisses me off.. and you know whats worse is how they collect information like they were radioshack or something, name, number and address, and they can search by any one of those fields to pull your previous stored info as well, oh and not to mention the year make and model of the car you drive. When you give morons like that access to millions of customers information, it can not be a good thing.

There was a time when you did not walk into an establishment knowing 10x more than the employees that worked there. Nowadays you have to be your own specialist in whatever it is you're looking for.........because 9 times out of 10, you walk in already knowing more than they do, and they COST YOU MORE TIME/ENERGY/MONEY than they give help.

I can't count how many times I've corrected employees because of the BS misinformation they spew.

Then again to kill time and make some extra cash I went to AutoZone to see if they were hiring part time help just for the hell of it. Their managers make less than half my hourly wages. No thanks. And thats the reason right there.

Just like focalcivic said...."what do you expect for minimum wage"

You have managers making CRAP wages, and employees making even less. So noone cares about quality of service.

If you know your knowledge is worth $X, and they're only willing to pay you $Y.......and there are OTHER employees there without a clue making $Y also.....you're going to tell them to shove it and find work elsewhere. So what you're left with is a bunch of flunkies that couldnt find work elsewhere, and know they're not worth any more than $Y per hour.

If I owned a store, or managed a store, and I had some of the scumbags that work at AutoZone working under me (with their hats crooked, their pants hanging off their ass, and "sup" attitude when someone approaches the counter), I'd fire them in a heartbeat. I'd be so embarrassed to call it MY store with that kind of help working it. It's sad

I just tell them No, when they ask for the information. I guess for a little bit they couldn't do a transaction like 5 yrs or so ago and my pops just walked out & Said forget it.
I'm not giving my info out so I can be part of your list to sell off to every other company.

I used to work for Radio Shack years ago while in college. A lot of customers would get upset when I asked for their name and address -- especially when purchasing small ticket items. I simply replied that its not necessary, but you won't receive any upcoming sales fliers in the mail. A lot of times my customers changed their mind and gave me their name and address so that they could get those sales fliers. I kept index cards for all of my regular customers so that I could go back and fill in their info on the sales tickets without having to hassle them for their name and address every time they made a purchase. But of course Radio Shack finally got their act together and implemented a fully computerized POS system.

I agree with other people's comments that in general salesmen at most retail stores aren't very good at all. At least there is one exception for the CC store where my dad lives in Rome, GA. A young kid named Darius works there, and he is an incredible electronics geek. When he isn't working with a customer, Darius spends his time playing with every electronics gadget he can get his hands on. He has become pretty good at "soft selling" by simply asking appropriate questions about what the customer needs and then enthusiastically showing the customer what product he thinks best suits their needs, and then demonstrating the product features to show the customer why that product meets the customer's needs. Then he simply goes on to show them what accessories which they should immediately buy because they will really find them either handy or necessary to have. Thats the technique I used most of the time becuase I automatically assumed that the sale was made. I've told friends who are looking for electronics stuff to simply go see Darius and tell him what their needs are and to let him point them in the right direction.

makes me sad to have worked there....

BUT; you think the associates are stupid; you should meet the majoirty of the customer base... those guys couldn't spell resistor...

i never actually pushed a cobra; more often than not i'd recommend a pro78 (sold elsewhere) or a v995... unless someone TOTALLY stupid came in i wouldn't even show the cobra which usually resulted in "OMG YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO SELL ME THE MOST EXPENSIVE" no you stupid fat heffer i'm trying to sell you the LEAST SHEETY DETECTOR WE SELL YOU FAT FACK...

ugh i hated working there

but it was nice when someone would come in that knew their stuff expecting to deal with total tards then get me; someone who can read resistor values and knows what a pl259 connector is...

you should see how people react to me when they walk into a walgreens and ask a question about cell phones or photos or cameras or anything electrical, home, pharmacy, or auto related :haha:

they totally don't expect a regular hourly employee to know all that information. they assume we're all :stupid: or :hmmmm2: and when i'm done with them they're

I think they're subsidized by the government and the ones we see are just FBI field offices. I was in Central America a few months back and saw a Radio Shack, there were no customers in there. I'm sure it was a CIA safehouse. :D

One time I was replacing my video cards blown capacitor, and brought it to radio shack thinking they would have at least a multi meter I could use as well as a simple circuit with a battery and resistor to measure capacitance so I could buy a replacement to solder back on....

Well the guy was like I have no idea what you are talking about (He looked like he was from the age of the dinosaurs). He ended up trying to sell me a cell phone and I just walked out lol.

Agreed. This actually pisses me off more than ANY other Customer Service issue. After drudging through 15 minutes of automated BS, you finally get through to CS and they ask you for all the same info you put in through the automated system. Great system. Then to make matters worse, you can't understand a damn thing they say........and they're helping multiple customers at once so you constantly have to say..... "HELLO?! Are you listening?"
