On Escort site we can read that 9500i, 9500ix and 9500ci have:
"Mute, AutoMute & SmartMute".

What this SmartMute is exactly?

Is it a feature descripted in the 9500ci manual as:

"At low speeds, (below 20 mph) radar alerts
will be reduced to a double-tone based on
the band received (e.g. double brap for kband)."

Do you like it?
I don't. In my humble opnion user should has possibility to switch it off.

SmartMute? Personally I've never heard of it until now but it's only mentioned on the very first page in the manual as a trademark...

hehe, I made a thread about this awhile ago... get ready for it...

smart mute: is the little button that mutes the alert that's attached to the cig lighter.

Anyway guys, do you like guys this feature:
"At low speeds, (below 20 mph) radar alerts
will be reduced to a double-tone based on
the band received (e.g. double brap for kband)."

I hate it, and it can not be switched off! :026:

yeah, it should definitely just be a user selected option.

Can someone clarify this for me, is Smartmute an option in the menu, or part of the Automode? I know with the reg detectors you can have automute on or off, is smartmute the same way?

there is no such thing as a smart mute function. it's just a button on the cigarette lighter to mute the alert.

I kind of like the idea, it doesn't do it in A mode only?

Are you kidding, isn't a function of Auto mode?

I love it !!! Sure it would be nice to set the speed (including 0 mph) but I'd probably have mine set just where they have it.

It's one of my favorite features.

A mode, H mode, GPS on, GPS off, AutoMuto on or off - no matter what you activate, "only two beeps under 20MPH feature" allways works. The one exception is when you just start 9500ci and GPS doesn't catch sats yet - it lasts only 30-60 seconds.

Thanks, it certainly should be selectable. Even though i would leave it on all the time anyway because who needs detection at under 20mph. 9 times out of 10 your in a parking lot at that speed.
