I had a few minutes to kill before picking up my chinese food so I walked into the Radio Shack next door where they had a nice display of Cobra "Radar Detectors". On one of them, 9 thousand series, something, something it stated that the detector detected and alerted to the VG-2 and Spectre RDD's.
Really? :confused::confused:
Is this right? My whole family of Escorts won't detect and alert to these RDD's. :(

Yeah, I heard about those.
I thought the package said that when the detector detected a Spectre they would send a car behind you with flashing lights on the roof to remind you to slow down.

No I saw this too, on my friends cobra it says "Spectre Detection Enabled" when starting up. Thats bulls*** and if so I would like to see it tested. And I don't feel it will work at most distances.

The truth is that these Cobras will alert to VG-2 and Spectre 1 only. Real RDs are immune to both of these RDDs.

+1 not to mention Spectre 1 and VG-2 are so obsolete even finding one of those to test these Cobras against would be an extreme task.
(If the V1 can find a Cobra, I'm not going to assume that it's sprectre 1 proof)
(When is Cobra coming out with a V1 proof RD?)

As usual, Tandy let an entirely good product line slide into the dumpster. During the early to late 1980s they used to market some fairly decent radar detectors under their own Micronta brand line. But, just like their Tandy computers, stereo products, wire and cable products, CB products, the corporate brains in Tandy Towers faltered due to pure greed and unconscionable ineptitude. I constantly had the impression, "What the h$ll were they thinking?" I know now what they were thinking -- short term profits versus long term product line development and market share. I bet that those bigwigs got their quarterly bonuses though -- at least for a while until consumers went to other sources.
Just a small rant.

Wow this is getting out of hand someone should take them to court on grounds of false advertising it is appalling how bad this is getting with their RDD. I mean if all the features advertised have a chunk of fine print under it they just shouldnt be underlined.

It's not false advertising, they're just advertising features that are useless in todays world. Sadly, many consumers will look at the "features" of a crapra along with their detection of 12 bands and walk out the store thinking they have the latest and greatest then see red and blue lights in the mirror on the ride home.
