I'm looking to buy either the RX65 or X50 this week unless anyone knows of any new competitive radar detectors soon to hit the market. I haven't been able to find anything indicating a new product that can compete. Let me know if you know anything. Thanks!

The answer is definitely yes, and this applies especially to people who have to worry about RDDs sniffing them out. As far as the rest of us are concerned, we've never actually seen a main-stream detector that was built with spectre-proofing in mind. For that reason there is no telling what the detection will be like. Could be worse, could be better. I think that there is the potential for some new ground to be broken here on several fronts.

I'm not really that worried about RDD right now. From what I hear, the X50 and the RX65 can also be upgraded if new technology comes out. I don't know that I can wait until January or later. I guess I'll go ahead and buy and hope to be able to upgrade.

As far as advances/upgrades in RDs go over the next year, the big things will be, or the RD manufacturers should be working on, are:
1. Spectre immunity
2. Ku detection (RX65 and V1 have this already, just has to be turned on in the menus)
3. 16ms POP detection
4. LA Stealth detection (V1 has already)

Increased distance and better filtering wouldn't be bad either :)

Dont count on it, do a search as we have already discussed the upgradability of these detectors..it is all crap.
There is some good advances in radar detectors soon, alot of digital ones with 0 LO Leakage...but for now get a RX65 and sell it when new stuff comes out

Unfortunately, despite the fact that Bel and Escort advertise "SOFTWARE UPGRADEABLE" all over their product boxes, neither company has ever offered a software upgrade.
I doubt they ever will.
