Another Way To Test LASER Detectors

I am a golfer and recently purchased an Optic Range Finder for use in measuring distance. The unit that I purchased is the "Newcon Optik LRM 1500 SPD". This range finder not only measures distance in Yards and Meters; it also measures speed in MPH and KMH !!!

It's a very nice hand-held device for around $350.

In any case, I wondered if I could use it to set off my RADAR/LASER detector? IT CERTAINLY DID !!!

I found it useful for testing the range of my LASER detector, as well as useful for my original intended purpose of purchase (golf).

P.S. I do not work for these guys, nor am I attempting to promote their organization in any way, shape, or form. I did discover an overlap that might be useful for some of you guys with RADAR/LASER detectors out there.

Whew... Thats a pricey tester...

I think JTW sells one for $30 bucks or something, I'd probly go with that. Guess it all depends on the range 8)

It is pricey if the only intended purpose is to test the LASER band. I felt this to be an added bonus if the purchase was made for other ventures.

If you're an electro-nut ... it is actually a nice device for measuring distance and speed (less expensive than a radar or laser gun) and dead on accurate.

Has anybody actually tested range on these using your radar detector?
I would be curious to see how far one of these would set off a detector.
I know the detector is going to have a lot to do with it but just ballpark figures.
This might be a cheap way for someone to test laser hits with their detectors.

man thats expensive...the osprey is way better..

Ive tested the range of the osprey with a rx 65 and it was alerting the detector from nearly 2 km away.

Using my Osprey, i've gotten range to 2.2 miles (3.5 km) with the V1.

I'm doing some other testing with the osprey, so i'll see if i can find a longer line of sight location to see max range for the heck of it and let you know.

I would just buy one of those testers from JTW. However, if you are going to buy one of those devices for golf, its an added benefit for radar detector freaks, heh heh.

I will prob do a test and video it tomorrow...max range..i know of a 4 km straight...ill see if i can get a alert all the way, ill also be testing the pulsemaster from drive smart.. at that distance ill be guessing where the car is ;)

How is it way better when they are the same unit just branded different? Compare the unit & specs. I would just go with the cheaper one.

I have an Osprey , the 2 units are almost identical physically and by features . By the way , in the LMR 1500 pdf they write made in Canada ,, which I doubt. Paid 189 us in June 2005 ,for the Osprey made in China.

Anyone ever tried using their cordless optical mouse connected to the computer? I don't have a cordless one, but I heard they might set them off as well. I might just hop down to the computer store to test it out.
