I was reading a manual for a radar detector I was going to buy (downloadable .pdf format) and it said that there is a protective coating on the inside of some winshields, and if you use the suction cups with this coating, it could leave permanent marks, has anyone had this problem before? I've never heard of it until now, so I'm guessing it's not very common.

Thanks

I haven't heard of it but I wonder if they are talking about those windshields that have some type of heating in them, like some of the old Merkurs used to have.

Some Porsches and German cars have anti-laceration films on them. Most cars don't.

That it actually true. I have 2004 jetta and ithey leave a mark I wasn't sure if it is permanent or not, but doesn't seem to come off quick. It is hard to see the mark though.

I think they are talking about the extra plastic film on the inside of the windshield, I remember the old Pontiac 6000 STE had that, Porsche 944 also...
