Just got back from long road trip. This x50 performed quite well. Got a heads up on K and Ka several times. Once at 3.5 miles in western Kansas. There were 5 "maggots" crawling on both sides of the interstate. They're soooooooooo pathetic..soooooooooo bored. I wished they'd all go get a real life and quit hassling "innocent speeders"

So here's where the Desperate Housetroopers plays into the story. I swear these jokers will stop at nothing to collect speed tax.

I was headed east from Alamosa to Walsenberg. About a mile up the road I could see flashing lights...it was obviously Dudley Dooright. As I got closer he had some poor bastard stopped. What was amazing is his patrol vehicle. IT LOOKED LIKE AN AMBULANCE!!! No sh!t...the vehicle this Colorado Trooper was in was a huge truck looking thing. My 25 year old son rolled laughing and said "Geez I guess they've resorted to driving undercover ice cream trucks!".

I couldn't believe it. I guess it was some sort of pattie wagon...maybe a weight and scale enforcement truck...hell who knows. It certainly didn't look like any patrol unit I've seen before....and I've seen 'em all (Camaros, F150s, F250 4x4's, and even mini-vans).

I won't be surprised to see the desparate housetroopers sneaking around in friggin dump trucks hoping to nail unsuspecting speeders.

Last year in Texas on I-20 I was headed west outta Weatherford when I started getting a Ka alert. Over a 2 mile period it went from a single brap to constant full alert. I thought it must be an offending piece of junk RMR or something. I was just about to speed up and go on when my wife said "Check it out!". As we passed a 2000 gold Chrysler Sebring (I swear it looked like something my Grandma would drive) there was stinkin' DPS trooper behind the wheel with a RADAR antenna mounted on the dash.

I'm tellin' ya...these Troopers are bored and desperate to resort to patrolling from ice cream trucks and unmarked "granny" cars to hide from plainview. There ought to be a law against it.

One more thing.

Twice today I got full alert Ka band falses from POS offending detectors. When I finally figured out what was happening and passed the car in front of me that was creating the false....the alert subsided and in both cases this is what I saw stuck to their windshields........

Here's another funny. I was headed east on I-70 toward Salina...about 15 miles west of Fort Hayes. I was driving about 88 mph (my standard) passing a few cars. I had just passed a red mini-van that had a Cobra or Whistler stuck on his windshield.

My x50 brap a couple times on Ka and I pumped the brake down to about 80. I brapped 2 or 3 more times and I came on down to 74 mph (speed limit there is 70) and set my cruise.

The van I just passed acted a little perturbed and went back around me. He kinda pointed at his detector ...frowned and shrugged...as he passed me back. I thought "Poor Bastard....he's gonna get it." We drove about 1 mile farther and the van was about 2 car lengths in front of me by then.

My son said "There he is 12 o'clock". About 1/4 to a 1/2 mile in the oncoming lane was a Kansas Trooper shooting people with instant burst of Ka. Just as son one said that the mini-van brake lights light up! I was doing about 74 or 73 I guees the van was doing 76. The trooper never looked twice....probably giving people 5-6 over.

But it was obvious that guys $100 RD was about as effective as a block of wood.

88mi/h exactly?

EXACTLY! Unlike most morons I use a friggin cruise control. Don't ask why 88. I can't tell you. I just don't like driving 90.

Why is it moronic to not use cruise control? Because it keeps the driver more alert to not use it? Or because while with cruise control during the split second it takes for you to hit the brakes in an emergency you are still doing a constant speed whereas without cruise control you'd be slowing down during the period of time?

I use the cruise sometimes...

but often I drive speeds where I feel the cruise is potentially a safety hazard...

I like the "R/A" button... that's the fun one...

hey you can say you drive 140km/h!

when i was going up to vermont jan 1st, i had my cruise set at 80 the whole ways the roads were empty so why not give the right foot a break,

Only ran into 2 cops parked together when i entered VT using instant on, I was lent my friends old school 8500 for the trip all i got was one quick warning and then i got full on reading, at least i was able to get my speed down to 70 before i got the full on blast, one of my modifications i'm extremely pleased with, slotted rotors

Ok ok that's a little harsh. What I meant to say is ...

I can't stand a$$wipe drivers that don't hold a consistent speed. Out here in the west (I dunno where you're from) the roads are so wide and open and straight it is much easier to simply set the cruise.

Of course when I'm drivin in thick traffic...like back east I don't use it much because you're constantly kicking it off.

The issue is people that are incapable of driving a constant speed. They can't decided what speed they are going to drive and they literally swing from 65 to 85 every mile or two.

I dunno about you but that drive me nuts. And out here....in the southwest it is considered to be inconsiderate and rude. Where I was taught to drive there is a protocol known as common courtesy. Things like "You don't drive endless in the left lane (of a divided HWY) and obstruct traffic." In some states this is actually against the law. In Texas the law states drivers must drive in the right lane unless passing period.

Now you can interpret that any way you like. But it was designed to keep a-holes from hogging the left lane and impeding traffic.

A similar "courtesy" is to drive a consistent speed. It's not that your speed can't change over long distance due to varying conditions, it's the issue of being able to drive in a consistent manner over short distances. When people's speed is swinging by even 2 or 3 mph over 5,000 feet it is so annoying. If I am driving a constant 80 mph and the person I pass is swinging from 77 to 82...I barely even get around them before they are passing me again and visa versa. I've been around drivers on the interstate that were so unaware of what the hell was going on that we passed each other 5 or 6 times over a 10 mile corridor before I finally gave up on they're rude driving skills....sped up to 90 for 5 or 6 miles and got the hell away from them to stop the "ring around the rosey" then set my speed back at a constant rate.

If you can drive a constant speed and be courteous without using a cruise...then kudos to you. Most morons simply can't focus on their speed that closely...or won't focus...and are ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Sorry if I offended you. I wasn't calling you a moron for not using a cruise control. I just think it is RUDE to drive in such an inconsistent speed over short distances.

Ah, I see. Well in the east, where there isn't traffic the roads a curvey, but in the places where it's relatively straight and not too trafficy I just keep a constant speed without using cruise. Flight training involves keeping a perfectly constant speed for an extended period of time. I figure if a trainee pilot can do it, I can do it in my car, so I do.

That's cool. I think you understand what I mean. I know anyone's speed can vary on a given highway. But the annoyance I speak of is the incompetent or oblivious driver that pays no attention to his/her speed and varies but several mph over short distances.

This is one of my pet peeves...I think I'll start a new thread.

RadarWarrior, you sound a lot like me. I did mention something to this affect in an previous thread. I have had the same happen to me and it still happens here in VA. Believe it or not VA has the same "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT" signs along their HWYS. But the majority don't. They have carte blanche on the left lane doing 70mph and traffic flow is at 80. The up - down speed thing annoys the #*^^ outa me too. And I drive with cruise even in a 35. I may be doing 40, but I'm keeping the flow.

I guess it came from me being out in TX a lot, or just my style.
I'll never own another vehicle without cruise 4 sho....

I will remember that pharse when I go to ciourt fo0r two bogus vilations.

And I will be prepared. By doing so, I won my girlfriends case with photos.

And in an early post, I stated that someone said that digital photos can be altered.

As a phtographer (hobby only), you can scan a 35 mm print into computer and alter it the same as digital. I don't condone this since it is not honest or legal.

And as a phtographer, I do not particularly like all the computer enhancements. It was more fun when it was just you, a camera and a darkroom. It took skill to produce good photos-not money.

firebird, what were you talking about here? How does this relate to what we're talking about? Or were you someplace else?
