I got lasered this morning and coming home from work by guess who....... A State Trooper. What was interesting and disapointing was that my Valentine 1 did not alert me (on the second encounter coming home from work) while my Blinder did on both encounters. The other interesting thing was that once I passed the Trooper he lasered me from behind! I actually saw him doing it. My V1 did not alert me on the rear encounter. I LOVE the Blinder and Veil!

I remember you saying one time before that you were driving below the speed limit to see if the trooper would laser you and he still did. But, were you speeding this time or any of the other times? (When your Blinder and Valentine go off do you normally slow down or maintain speed?) These troopers seem to be very persistent with you.

Today going to work I was going about 65mph (speed limit) and coming home I was going 60mph. They LOVE me :)

happya$$,

I wonder what was the approx. distance that the trooper lasered you?

And was your V1 detector high on the windshield?

SML has demonstrated then we you get closer to the laser source the beam can narrow to the point that no part of it makes it to your windshield making the task of seeing it extremely difficult.

Based upon their tests over the years it appears the V1 is the best suited to seeing laser at closer distances.

The reason your Blinder went off is because it is closer to where the laser was actually pointed (the bumper.)

I am considering to make a trip out to Ohio (and possibly Missouri) based upon what I have been hearing.

I am curious, what do they do when that have problems getting your speed? Although you may have answered that question earlier.

He probably didn't get a reading, was shocked, and then went to the trouble to try to get you again - from the rear. He must of have been surprised and confused at the same time. Way to go!

You must be having a ball out there! And I am jealous!

You should be both Blinder's and VEIL's poster child!

if you head to Missouri, i know it might be a little far, but Kansas City is full of lidar guns. About 6 months ago i got nailed for 65 in a 45 and my escort 8500 didn't make a sound. If you do get to Kansas City just drive up and down Bruce R. Watkins Drive (also known as 71 highway)

Are there a lot of wheat fields out their still?

I remember that ole classic Silver Streak where Richard Prior was driving Gene Wilder in an older Jag E-type through those beaufiful fields as the camera pans to KC from a distance.

Did it (does it) really look like that out there?

It was pretty cool.

Bob,

If you come to Ohio you and your wife are welcome to stay at my place. If you are looking for speed enforcement encounters of the third kind then you will not get better than Ohio :) Your Veil will get a SERIOUS workout in Ohio TRUST ME. Look at all the laser encounters that I have had in the past couple of weeks. They get even worse in the Spring and summer, FAR WORSE. The distance on this morning's encounter was about 300' and this evening's encounter was about 800'

ya there's still wheat fields out here but there are much more buildings up now than was shown in the movie

That's most kind of you.

I have in-laws (ie; out-laws) located in Arkon area south on 77 of Cleveland.

300' explains it. In fairness to the mighty V1, no detector could likely see it and Veil probably wouldn't help you [alone] either at a mere 300'

You could almost reach out and touch the officer at this close distance.

Its good that you have the Blinder. The officer must have s#&t in his pants when he couldn't get you so close up! That's probably why he was hell bent on trying to get you again from the rear.

Great story!

My wife works at Akron so if you come to Ohio maybe we can all meet out for dinner at Hibachi's (Cuyahoga Falls HEAVY laser users)

mauiman84,

Like everywhere else. What a shame. That was a really cool transition shot in that movie.

Every now and again I catch the original Dirty Harry on the TV and I see how much open space was around the Marin County area.

I am sure it looks nothing like that today.

happya$$,

Sure why not. Given your experiences with LIDAR I think we'll make a trip out to Ohio in the summer.

We'll play it by ear and see if we can figure something out...

I have had my Veil for about 3 months and thus far it is still going strong. The weather in Ohio is BRUTAL (just in case people do not know). One day it can be 65 degrees and the next 5 degrees.

that was hilarous- last month when it was 55 degrees, then the next day we get 22 inches of snow

All I have to say is don't come to New England. You won't be any happier in the winter. The weather fluctuates about the same way and you get to deal with the super-fun coastal storms every so often, too.

I literally took move almost decade just to figure out how to make VEIL weather resistant and it was no small task.

I am super-thrilled to hear the happya$$. Between on the salting/deicing and the crud that builds up during your winters (similar to ours) I'll be most interested to see how long you get out of it.

We opted to be conservative but I am hoping you get 12 months or more out it!

Be sure to keep us posted. Why not take a picture or two of your setup during this time of year so I can see how your doing. Perhaps I can use one of your pics on our site!

And perhaps we can retake a picture after each season as time goes on to demonstrate its heartiness.

No problem. I am posting a pic of the Veil and Blinder on my wife's car. I already posted a pic of my Civic

I also use a Blinder in the Cleveland, Akron, and other northern Ohio areas. But when I get an alert, I immediately slow down to the legal limit and then completely turn the Blinder off with a hidden toggle switch that I installed. This allows the officer to clock me at a legal speed and deters him from wondering why he cannot get a reading at very close range. Happya$$, did you leave your Blinder turned on even as you passed directly by each officer? If yes, then that indicates the Blinder's excellent capability. On the other hand, what if one of those officers decides to pull you over to inspect your vehicle? I'm not trying to critique how you use your Blinder, but I presume you're not trying to tempt fate? BTW, that was a good story, and thanks to you and some others in this forum, I learned that I can upgrade my V1.8 POP1 to a POP2, extend the warranty for a year, and at no additional cost, other than what it costs to mail it to Valentine. :D

I turn off my Blinder once i reach "legal" speeds. I do not want to give an officer more of a reason to pull me over
