View Full Version : Should I consider the ZR4?

I have a 9500ix and given the increasing use of laser am starting to investigate jammers. I really like the idea of the ZR4's ability to integrate with the 9500 and to have a single display.

However, it seems that the preponderance of opinion on this site is that the ZR4 isn't that all that great compared to other devices. So I have two questions.

1) Anyone out there with a ZR4 who can summarize its pros and cons?
2) If you're using one integrated with an Escort radar detector, how useful is this feature?

Thanks.

first look at a gol test...

http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008/laser-jammer-test.html

I do not own the zr4's but i can pretty much tell u the pro's and cons....pro's would be price and i guess the ability to be integrated but it rele doesnt matter than much since if u didnt have the 9500i and just zr4's they would go off on their own and alert u...

con's would be the performance, and to improve the performance most people purchase veil to cover their headlights.

Why get a ZR4 when you can get a Blinder M25 for relatively the same price.

hell no. I'd get a blinder over this piece of junk.

ONLY if you pair it with Veil but there are other choices that are MUCH better like the Blinder and LI.

I would have MEM-TEK's modified ZR4's in a minute. MEM if you are listening I'd love a set.

I think people here are being a bit too harsh on the ZR4s. Sure, the LIs crush the ZR4s, no argument there. But, I'd put the ZR4s in the exact same catergory as the Blinders, which is mediocre performance without Veil, excellent performance with Veil. The Blinders might outperform the ZR4s without Veil, but I certainly wouldn't suggest anyone run them that way. So, in that case, I would personally prefer the integration of the ZR4s with the 9500ix over the non-integration of the Blinders.

What car are you planning on putting the jammers on?

Here's a video of my ZR4s with Veil added performing very well vs my PLII.

I agree also my little zr3's not zr4's pretty much give me 500ft to slow down or they Jam to the gun depends on the type in 500ft i could slow down a good 30mph or more so it's all about no tickets

of course type of car front has alot to do with it

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

I've got an 09 BMW 335i Sedan.

As you say, the thing that attracted me to the ZR4 -- in concept, anyway -- was the single display point with my 9500ix. I've hardwired it into my car, and I'd like to avoid cluttering the inside with additional displays. Obviously this is secondary to how good a job it does.

Regarding Veil, are there any pictures of what headlights look like before and after it is applied. I've tried to check the laser veil site, but while it has videos of the product in action, I didn't see any still shots of what it does to the look of the car.

Most Veil applications are not as nice.

btw rams did u veil ur fromt liscense plate or did u put a cover on it?I have 3 options, my original Veiled plate(too obvious and dark to use), a Veiled CR8APL8(also too dark and obvious) and a CR8APL8 with no Veil, which is what I normally use.

djrams80,
try veiling your plate like mine.

http://www.radardetector.net/forums/veil/44415-my-veil-plate.html

The plate has no runs at all and looks like a plate in a smoked licence plate cover. Trust me, it looks better in person than in that pic with my cannon 850is. Also, how many post you got with your mustang? seems like almost every toipic i click on, i see your mustang. BTW, thats a sweet and the best setup ive seen on a mustang.
Back to the original question, Unless your BMW is black, i dont think you want a zr-4 since its not that strong of a jammer for that car and its placement is too far from the headlights for such a week jammer. I would only suggest getting a zr-4 only if you have most of the following:
black car
heads installed as close to the headlights as possible
little to no chrome
small head lights
no wrap around headlights

I personally like bmws with 2-3 LI heads up front and 1-2 LI head in the rear with veil in the rear.

I've tested my setup many times. The results are the same with a Veiled CR8APL8, non-Veiled CR8APL8 and no plate. Basically, on my setup, as long as the plate isn't the original plate, it doesn't make any difference which plate I use, so I use the plate that I think won't get me pulled over.
