Being a resident of france (orginally from NJ) I can say that if you are contemplating an RX65 get the RX65e which is tuned for european radar.
Nonetheless my US purchased RX65 works fine on the MESTA 210 K band mobile units.
You can forget the fixed systems, too low powered. Use a GPS system for those.
As for now I know of no Spectre usage in France so the STI/STI-R is not a necessity yet.
I guess a good portable model (V1/9500i/RX65/STI) coupled with the Coyote (Coyote :: Un avertisseur de radars fixes et mobiles - pas un détecteur de radar (http://www.moncoyote.com)) would be a good start.
