No Laser speed traps during the night time!

Up here in the Toronto area, city streets and freeways, there are NO laser speed traps after the sunset... but lots of them during the day time, and I'm talking about warm days, April to Nov, 100% of the laser traps involve cops outside their cruisers with the laser gun on a tripod, most of the time they are two, one does the gun and nailing the "bad" drivers and then all the paper work for the ticket while the other one takes over and does his part, so why they don't do laser speed traps during the night time????? Also there is no more laser speed traps on the freeways, there used to be 2-3 years ago but not any more!!!
Anybody dares to guess on this issue :?:
Couple of police officers have been killed recently beeing with their cruiser on the shoulder of a freeway hit by oncoming vehicles... they never say the "real" reason of the shoulder-crash, it might have been a speed trap, we don't know that :roll:

From what I have heard, the officers don't like looking into the vehicle headlights through the viewfinder of the laser guns.

Interesting point... never thought about it as I have never got a chance to do a living, at least part-time, by looking into a tiny camera's viewfinder just to nail drivers while always facing thousand or tens of thousands of watts directed straight into my eyes... after all cops are like us, humans, and do not like having their eye vision being afected for the rest of their lifes... so this might be a medical reason!

I don't know about Canada, but here in Ohio the officers apparantly love looking at headlights because I'd say a good 60% of the laser traps I encounter here are nighttime... which is good because at night I get phenomenal range on the ol' v1

Apparently "my" cops really DO care, because since spring/summer of 1996 when I saw the very first cop using a laser gun on a tripod (I was so shocked by the event than I will never ever forget that particular spot of space... and I wasn't even pulled over at all!!!) I wasn't able to see one laser speed trap after dark... must have been a special reason why they avoid so much doing this after dark... and I don't mind it all :)

You may also notice that our "Heros" do not set up Laser traps in January, February, March ...... or in any nasty weather

No laser from Nov until end of March... and I don't mind it at all :)

They use it on the NY State Thruway (I-87) at night - usually 1 or 2 places when I drive upto Albany. Sometimes they follow it up with a KA blast in the a$$ after you've gone past em..

They usually sit in their cars, with the driver's window facing oncoming traffic, with their window cracked.. I've also seen one at dusk, leaning against the hood of the car using a shoulder-rest like attachment.

Just a thought: It's possible you actually went through some laser traps at night without your detector alerting. :idea: :?:

It really depends on the range and operator skill. From what I've read, either the reviews of laser detection are very conservative or cops around here aren't very steady with their aim; probably the latter. :wink: I've always had a laser alert when I was able to see the source, even with a 5 year old Bel mounted on the visor. Who knows what I drove through at night without knowing.
