Hello there, my name is Angie Saenz and I would like to give my husband a gift for his birthday, so I want to give him a radar detector and a laser jammer. Money is NOT a problem, I'm a dentist and he's a computer programmer, so we earn enough to give each other the privilege of these luxuries. However, he's in the final process in making his new truck the fastest in the city. He's overhauling the whole exterior and interior. His new truck is a single cab GMC Sierra with the 6.2L engine. I believe he's supercharging it, boring it out, adding ram air, exhaust, headers, and IDK what else. This is all I've overheard from him talking to the shop that's doing this.

All in all, they promised him 800+ horses (Whatever that is) and 850+tork (Whatever that is), but just by how that sounds I'm pretty sure he's gonna go really fast, and he's about to lose his license if he gets another ticket. I don't want that to happen, so I want him to be protected.

The powertrain is done in the shop, so now they're gonna start the interior, and I would like to tell the shop to add whatever you guys recommend so my hubby can be a little safer out there. Thanks a lot.

Posting the same thing twice is not allowed here but I will answer it anyway.

If money is not an issue in the slightest then I would recommend LI Quad (HP?) with the 9500ci and v1 combo.

Just be sure that the shop knows how to properly install the laser jammer heads. Just look around the laser jammer forum and you will figure out very quickly how to do it right.

Also keep in mind that all the countermeasures in the world will not prevent your husband from getting additional speeding tickets. Radar detectors only alert when they are detecting radar guns which are nearby and in operation. A LEO who is patient may trigger his radar gun maybe once every few or several minutes, preventing radar detectors from alerting simply because the radar detector still is too far away to detect the very distant radar gun. No laser jammer system is 100% effective either, but a good laser jammer system can provide you with a few to several seconds to slow down to the PSL before you either kill the laser jammers or before a LEO finally gets a speed reading.

Most importantly, what state do ya'all live in and does your husband do mostly city driving, highway driving, or a combination of both? Anyway, since your husband is so close to losing his license, his best option is to slow down regardless of what countermeasures you also buy for him to use.

Make sure you tell them when they install the jammers the heads must have a clear view of the road. Don't try and hide them behind some mesh or grille. Same goes for the remote radar antenna if you go that way.

My recommendation at a minimum is a Laser Interceptor (LI) quad and a Valentine 1 radar detector. I use this setup on my Vette in combination with the Escort 9500ci remote mount radar detector.

This is considered the ultimate setup around here right now and it will set you back about $3K or a bit more.

If you can get some pictures of the front and back of the truck we can recommend mounting locations.

TX huh? Okay, we have had several reports of TX DPS using Spectre radar detector detectors to detect and nab motorists who are using radar detectors. At present there are only three radar detector models available which are completely immune from detection by the Spectre or any other radar detector detector. Those models are:

Beltronics STi which is a windshield mount model
Beltronics STi-R which is a remote installed model
Escort 9500ci which is a remote installed model

Basically the STi and STi-R are radar detectors which are superb mainly for highway use. Escort's 9500ci is superb for both highway and city use since it uses GPS to provide alerts for red light cameras (prevalent in TX cities) and since it also uses GPS to filter out false alerts caused by microwave automatic door openers at grocery stores, pharmacies, et cetera.

I have a 9500ci, absolutely love it, and highly recommend it. The 9500ci includes Escort's ZR4 laser jammers, but the ZR4 jammers have mediocre performance. I would highly recommend either getting a Laser Interceptor laser jammer system or the new Blinder M47 J17 laser jammer system. Both of these laser jammer systems, at present, are the best which I have ever seen tested with my own eyes.

I'm thinking Cliff need to pipe in here, after looking at all that chrome on the front and lack of great mounting places without cutting into the chrome grille (doubt he will want that), I'm thinking LI high powers may be required.

This is just another one of his "projects". Oh, we have enough fast cars, he currently drives a Corvette ZR1, our travel car is a Trailblazer SS which he's also modified, and my current car is a Cadillac CTS-V. He just wanted a truck, since that's the cool thing in Odessa.

Like I had mentioned, he has a radar detector, and I saw it yesterday, it's a Whistler Pro 73, and he swears by it. So I want to stick with that same brand, and I've heard that the Pro 78 is the best right now, so I'll get him that. I don't want to go with the SE versions just yet.

I'm also gonna buy him the Laser Interceptor HP QUAD, since it is gonna have a lot of chrome, and I don't want to skimp on laser protection from what I've read.

I also like the Cheetah Mirror, I'll probably get one for my car too. So, will this be pretty good for him? I need to know ASAP so the shop can start ordering this stuff.

I still think the Escort 9500ci would be a very nice upgrade to your husband's whistler. Whistler is not bad but they are better options. Hopefully some members here can post some vids of the amazing range of the 9500ci.

To me, that kind of body work would attract all the wrong (i.e. - LEO) kind of attention. Especially if you're only a ticket away from losing your license.

He'll change his tune in an instant with any of the units recommended in this thread. If you're going to ask the experts I recommend following their advice. ;)

Speaking of advice, Mem-tek already said this but it can't be emphasized enough: the devices don't just work on their own. Your husband will actually need to know how to use the tools properly.

I think Cliff should make the call on the LI being a HP or not. The truck does have a lot of chrome on the front but the regular LI is pretty powerful in itself.
