Why is it that Beltronics and Escort can not be shipped from USA to Canada? I should know this but don't!

IMO,They probably don't want to deal with legality issues, cuz some part of CANADA , radar detectors are illegal.

Right but it's illegal to possess in Canada so probably gotta deal with Customs, whereas VA and DC it's legal to possess just not to install on your car.

It may be because its just a pain in the axe to do all the shipping declaration paperwork to send anything accross the border. :badputer:
Anything shipped has to have harmonized codes,NAFTA declarations, Proforma invoices etc. and also a customs broker to help push your products thru if you ship alot. It takes longer to get thru customs and your customers whine about the delays as if you could do anything about it.
Its pretty much a time consuming pain filled activity. In fact it would be more pleasant to have your anus rubbed with a wirebrush. :banghead:

The bizarre thing is that the rd's are made in Canada.

I thought Bel was even more popular in other countries than here. I would think the STI would be a big seller in AU, and Canada. Eventhough the paperwork would be a hassle I would think it would make good business sense to ship to these countries. Especially if the product is actually made inside the country they are shipping to.

Bingo, customs and duty fees. We have authorized distributors in Canada to service the Canadian customers.

Incorrect, we ship to VA and DC. While using a radar detector is prohibited in these states, it is not illegal to ship them there.

Escort purchased Beltronics along with their production facility in Canada back in 1999 - 2000. A few key reasons why we have produced our detectors there since then is because they owned their SMT equipment (uber-expensive machines that place all the tiny parts on the circuit boards, really cool to watch too!) while we leased ours, plus we do not have to deal with Canada's customs any longer when shipping to our Canadian distributors. We have since built an entirely new production facility in Mississauga Canada. Our HQ is still in the USA where we design, market, and service our products.

Holy *&^%. Get your facts straight. I can't believe that you (represent) the manufacturer and are still spouting this nonsense. RADAR DETECTORS ARE DUTY FREE UNDER THE FREE TRADE AGREEMENT.

Canada Customs does not enforce Provincial Highway Traffic laws, and thus does not care if you ship/own/purchase a radar detector.

Canada Customs will collect PST and GST. It collects these sales taxes no differently than any other merchant.

Other than ignorance of the laws, there is no reason Escort will not ship its Canadian made products BACK to Canada. :hmmmm2:

No it's not.

However if a Canadian customer refuses to pay customs fees/tax upon receipt of a shipment, it goes back to the sender who is now on the hook for extra shipping. Some retailers just don't want to deal with this.

There are plenty of other retailers that will ship to Canada.

No need to be hostile:rolleyes:
You still have to fill out all of the required export forms including NAFTA. It sucks. If they dont want to deal with it I dont blame them 1 bit. Its most likely different shipping parts back and forth betwenn facilities but to do it for individual customers is probably not worth the time/effort. If they have it covered by Canadian distributors then all the better.

Forms?? Description:> Radar Detector. Place of Origin:> Canada. Stick in Mailbox.

Funny part, I bet the Canadian distributors get their product from Ohio not Ontario.

Trust me, there's no valid reason why they won't ship to Canada. There might however be some sort of agreement where they won't directly compete with their Canadian distributors...
