Is this something that can be easily replaced? I called Whister and they said it would take 3 weeks...

If you're at all electronics savvy, you could easily do it yourself. If you call and talk to enough people at Whistler, eventually you'll get one that's willing to send you a replacement speaker. Also, I think someone on the forum was replacing them for a while. It's not really hard to do.

I called Whistler and ordered a replacement speaker for $10 shipped. A little high for a tiny speaker but oh well. I opened it up and it looks very easy to replace. I hope I don't have to keep doing this!

The speaker failing is a known problem with some Whistlers. It occurs when you run the volume high with the voice alert on. I would suggest shutting off the voice.

I'll do that, thanks.

I used to have a Whistler 1793 SE and returned it for a 100% refund because of too many false alarms. The speaker worked great and was loud.
