Yup with and old cobra radar detector. I didn't realise when it went beep that one or two beeps ment SLOW DOWN! If your not being pulled over for speeding you would probably be alright but I am sure as hell you would hear a surmon about how useless radar detectors are...
oh the cop laughed about the radar detector and said "see how worthless those are.."What he didn't realise was I had picked him up on the detector in time and if I had been more use to using one would have been totally in the clear... 8)

You do not want to do this at all if possible. If a cop will simply pull you over for being suspicious because you are a minority or in an expensive car, they possibly could choose to hassel you for having a radar detector. If you do this in VA, DC, certain canadian provinces, or on military bases, you will get a ticket for sure. If nothing else you do not want a cop to remember your vehicle as having a radar detector. My sister left her radar detector beeping at a gas station a few months ago when she turned around a highway patrol car was parked beside her with the officer inside smiling and waving at her!

I have been pulled over for having a radar detector once. He said they were illegal, and i laughed because the week prior i email the police chief and asked

Well, while they will ticket you where it's illegal. They don't always notice. I pulled up next to two cops in DC, and at that point I figured I'd just bring attention to myself if I pulled it down, so I just took my chances, and they never noticed. I don't think any cop will pull you over just for having a detector where it's legal. Heck, the cops around here know I have a detector (small town, we all know each other...though the city cops have no problem giving out tickets), and they were just like "make sure to pull it down when you park so nobody steals it."

My boyfriend got paced by a cop, coming home from my aunts once. I'm convinced that the cop was trying to figure out if he was running anything, although in Michigan, it's not like it would have much mattered.
But, of course, the boy was well aware he was there. :)

While in VA I take my RD down during daylight driving but I leave the suction cup mount up. I'm sure LEAs have seen the mount when I've been stopped beside them but they pay me no mind. Like RR said, unless you're where RDs are illegal, you shouldn't have a problem.

My dad and I swapped cars awhile back, and he got pulled over in my mercedes (http://www.cardomain.com/id/crazyrob) when he was driving it back from the shop, It must of been a pretty funny stop cause that car was totally blacked out (legal limt) and had wheels on it that could double as mirrors. Cop probably thought he was pulling over a drug dealer and/or pimp.
I got alot of weird looks from cops when i drove his X5 one fire marshall threatened to arrest me for tail gating called me a spoiled brat, to bad i shut him up by demanding he arrest me and charge me for a traffic violation

Be careful like that in DC. AFAIK in DC radar detector possession POSSESSION is illegal as opposed to use while driving in VA. How does DC do that legally? Because they aren't a state...I wish they'd let them be a state so people can stick em with the constitution.

Cop said she was doing 50+ in a 30...stupid lady swurved into me, I was so knocked out my head hit the window cause my seat came lose, w/o a seat belt it would of been bad (thank god i always wear mine), hospital for 8hours is no fun, when i called my dad to tell i totaled the car he ws like sure it's probably a bunch of dents, he was a little wrong. my concusion was fun i don't remember filling out the report heck i couldn't read the part that said 'name here'
That car was a beast, I loved it, but RWD and a bad tranny sent me into a spin that was extremely hard to control, I got it back in control then it fished out over corrected and sent sideways with cars behind me i figured my best bet would be for the woods screw up my car and hurt no one else but she was speeding around a blind corner.

Most of the 190e's i see have AMGs...boring, I wnted something to make my car stand out and not look like perfrmance wheels cause the car isn't ment for that, I stood out alright so much some people didn't really like my mirror's i like them though.
I did get a ticket once for disturbing the peace and illegal lighting, driving downtown on a Sat. night system on blast bumpiing 140db, interior lighting flashing and underbody strobes with the neon. Plus the song i was playing at the time was "F the Police" i had it coming to me.
I had that car as a show car, all show no go.
My current volvo I'm going for speed and handling, for the AKA rally in 2006, plus for when i start to autocross.

Wow, that lady must have been a moron. Either way, what do you mean bad tranny? I mean, was it a tranny in need of repair, or are you calling a Benz tranny (best automatics in the world) bad? Oh, and you can't blame RWD, it's easier to get out of a spin with RWD than FWD. You must have got hit pretty hard for the seat to pop out if the seat in a 190 is anything like the seat in a W126. Still though, you should have gotten more tasteful wheels. That era of Benz may not have been fast, but set up properly they sure could handle.

177,00miles on the tranny was alot it jerked from 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th, when going around the corner wasn't accelerating at all an it dropped down to second, on a foggy misty day the roads weren't forgiving. I have tried to spin to my volvo and it won't have it even with traction control total off. my friend CRX is almost inpossible to spin, we have to put trays under the rear wheels
190 was horrible in the snowgetting stuck in 6inches of snow on brand new all season tires. so i only drove my sisters jeep in the winter. volvo o n 1/2 tread all season was no problem in killington when they didn't plow
mercedes auto's aren't to great at lest from that era the gearing was totally f--ed up 1st gear only to 20mph is no good i need to get to at least 30, to be able to play ball around a corner
the handling of that car was horrible even after i replaced the entire suspension, it was still to loose for me.
it was a great car abd would of lasted 200+ miles i took so much care of it, but in away i was happy cause that car would be able to come up to college with me in Upstate, NY, where the snow never stops.
The wheels were perfect for the show car scene, and thats ll i did with the car,

I suppose it's too late now but I think a tranny flush, where you also drain the torque convertor, would have fixed your tranny. And again, too late, but Benz's suck in the snow unless you put winter tires (all season means they suck in all season in reality) or you put like 200lbs of sand in the trunk over the rear wheels. Again, Benz handling, soft yes, but if you learn to work with it, it becomes amazing. The gearing is f'd up. I thought you said you had a 190 2.6, guess not. Edited to add: no, I just checked, it is a 2.6. Hmm....the one I drove had different gearing.

Yeah yeah yeah. And Rolls and Aston, two british companies, are known for great trannys since when? Never. Look at BMW. The ZF tranny they use in the V8 e39's is trouble free and the GM tranny they use in the I-6 E39s suck. Ford was the first company to have 4 wheel brakes and they don't have the best brakes. The british invented soccer yet they get their butts handed to them all the time.

My old wagon was a great first car. It was RWD so I had to pay attention to what I was doing in the winter, but underpowered so as not to get me in trouble (too often). Now that I have a FWD car I actually wish I had RWD again. The weight may not be over the drive wheels but you get control over both ends of the car. The oversteer was no big deal once I figured out how to correct it, and later became downright fun. Understeer, however, just plain scares me. All I can ever do about it let off the throttle and hope that it wants to stick again.

You know, the Polycast Honeycomb (RPO P05) is such a sweet looking rim... one of my all time favorites... and very rare as well...
BUT - I have to spend over $300 US on trim rings, and probably at least $150 on centre caps, plus a 20 on paint for the inside and I don't know how much for the impossible to find pebble grain finish paint for the polyurethane on the face  Plus my time and effort to refinish them.
If I had Rally II's like every other Poncho I could refinish them in two hours for about $25 and that includes the fancy masking kit
But the look is worth it!

this isn't like most shops They are the only place i could see bringing my car to they are extremely honest and do everything i ask for, plus they allow me to use their lifts and such when i'm working on my car, also i occasionally will install stereos and navigation systems if a customer of their's wants it. I helped out with the whole rewiring of my dad's 1949 pontiac. All their parts in work is warranteed and believe me i tested it after i went through 2 intercoolers after my accident where tranny fluid mixed with coolant. replaced no charge, My sister's jeep we bought from them for the cost to drop in a brand new engine, it ws running alittle rough at Cornell sis clled up the shop and the said it was this part, so they made arrangemnts for a shop up by her to put in a new part and they paid for it saying they should of remembered. Believe me this is one of the few mechanics my family has trusted.
