Hey... I was driving yesterday and got a very small K (or Ka, can't really remember) alert on my Whistler Pro 73... and guess what, I was right next to the cop. Yep, 90 degrees to my right. I was in the right lane, and he was in the right turn lane next to me. And only an alert of 3 out of 9 on the pro-73. Next thing I know his lights go on... good thing I was only going about 10 MPH! It was almost bumper to bumper traffic and I was stuck behind a row of cars from another stop light. Now, here's my question, the officer was driving, so I'm wondering... Do you think he had his mobile radar in a stand-by mode or something? Is there a stand-by mode with mobile radar? He was driving, and I don't know what he went after, whether it was an emergency or a traffic violation. Normally the pro-73 has good detection. I don't like this one... lol.
Thanks!

Sounds like instant on to me. I can trigger my K band gun fast enough where my Whistler will only show 1 or 2 on the strength meter.

I don't know...
It did warn me as a 1, then a 2, from a little ways away, and stayed at a 3 for a little bit after I passed him, so it didn't seem like instant on... unless it was the stand-by mode of instant on or something. Plus he was driving, unless he had just pulled out of his hiding spot.
Thanks for the reply!

Keep an eye on it, it could be malfunctioning or out of calibration.
They come with a 2 year warranty so at least you can get it fixed if it is messed up.

I do not know on the 1773 since I did not have it when I tested the PRO58 at the GOL test last fall, I would guess it would be close to the PRO 58 or 73 in performance.

I have the pro 73 and V1. The pro 73 laser detection is one of the bright things about whistler. Its laser pick up is excellent I have gotten laser warnings around curves even with it. So it picks up bounce off quite well. I have had times where the laser warning gave me more then enough time to slow down. To wow that was close but I had a few seconds to slow down. This all depends though if their is traffic around you. If you are the first hit then something like veil would save your butt. Also most radar guns I believe have a low power mode or standby mode. Also radar guns are very directional. expect k band guns I notice tend to spray allot more then ka. If anything I recommend to send in your radar detector to whistler. They have a excellent customer service department I think its better then valentine to tell you the truth. Write them a letter asking them to do a full test on the detector to make sure its operating at peak peformance. Of if you happen to know a nice officer on your street you might be able to borrow his gun for a few minutes and find out yourself. Slip him a 20 for some donuts. Trust me he wont turn you down. :D

I think that there's a chance that it could of been a very unfortunant coincidence. It was in an area where I usually get falses that are about 2/9 to 3/9. Maybe he wasn't shooting anything. Or maybe laser earlier on. I have driven by cops in traffic before and have gotten no warning, they just aren't shooting anything. Usually it's a state trooper if that happens though, as they shoot laser, so when they're not shooting, there is nothing to pick up. I'll see how it goes in the next week or so, and if it seems as though it's the detector, I'll probably send it in.
Thanks

What I recommend doing is going to a walmart parking lot and testing it on the door opener which is k band. Or find a hospital thats got a strong x band door opener. Remember if the officer aint facing you chances are your warning will be almost none since the gun is not aimed at you. Radar guns have to be somewhat directional. Also it could have been from somewhere else.
