View Full Version : meh ... someone talk me into/out of trying the RX65 or V1.
Had a V1 1.8 pre-pop, sold it to try an x50, like the x50, want to try an RX-65 since my first high-end unit was a 980, but kind of want to try the latest V1 too ... but what about the RX-65? I hate neverending cycles.
So yeah, is there really any reason for me to try the RX-65 / V1 even though I have an x50 now? Doesn't really seem so from what I've read (both here and other places), but I figured I'd ask.

I think the main differences are in the features, not the range. You've already driven with a relatively recent V1 so you know what that's all about. I don't know how much difference there is between RX65 and X50 but if I had to take a stand I'd say there's not much point in selling one to try the other. Why waste the time/effort/$$?

Yeah I agree but I will tell you that my V1 BLOWS AWAY my RX65 in terms of laser detection. If laser is used in your area buy a V1 and Veil. Mount the V1 low

Yeah the RX-65 and X-50 are probably so close in performance it probably isn't worth switching. Unless of course you just like to try out different detectors, in which case I would say go for it...

Both the X50 and the RX65 are stellar performers. Main differences.
X50:
Better threat display mode.
Better display angle for high mounting.
Better audio tone gradiants.
RX65:
Louder alerts
Ku detection built in.
That's pretty much it.

Don't forget the RX-65 has voice alerts...
Actually I think voice alerts on detectors are lame, but that's just me, I'm sure some people use them :D

In my tests, they are virtually identical, except the RX65 failed 2 out of 10 times to work for me, and out of 3 units 2 RX65s broke with SERVICE REQUIRED warning.

Oh yeah, forgot about those, have them off on mine. Only voice system I ever found useful was Cobra's, it would confirm setting changes with voice (ie. press the city/highway button it would say "City" or "highway")

The voice alert on the PNI units is fairly good, I've had it on for a while...
the problem is, it's speaking Spanish!
The MAJOR fault with this RD btw, is that during the POST it says "drive carefully travel safely" as the text scrolls on the display. I don't mind the text - but the voice really ticks me off. Perhaps I can pull out an EEPROM and get it to say "yo police this ain't no radar detector biznatch, it's legal!" if I ever get pulled over?
lol, detector en espanol.
Voice alerts have never done anything for me, either.

haha "Alerto - la Bando K'o." :D
Should be a setting for this somewhere, as I recall, a lot of the PNI detector are bi-lingual, but I don't think any are Spanish only.

There is a setting, however it must have accidentally switched to Spanish, and I'm having fun with it "bando ka'o"
