Currently there are no GPS overlays for the USA that contain locations of speed cameras within the USA that I am aware of. We are considering a new website that will contain these locations, however we want to see what the general interest is here in the forum.

If you know of a FIXED safety camera location, please post a message with the following information

State:
City:
Location:
GPS Location:
Type: (Red Light, Speed Camera, Both)

If you don't have a GPS, an easy way to get the longitude/latitude is to download Google Earth and find the location on the satellite image. It doesn't work everywhere since some areas are low-resolution, but the most populous areas are high enough quality to pick out cars and other small features.

Good find on that city/state website

It would be nice if everyone would stick to the same simple format! We will see how long it lasts.

Great idea BTW.

I have been doing google searches for department websites and adding info tonight from their sites.

If anyone wants to add the GPS locations, please feel free

Nice forum...

Here's some info for Washington D.C. These don't have GPS locations, but I might look at getting the raw info and writing a script to get it from google maps. Anyways...

Red Light Cameras:
http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view,a,1240,q,548257,mpdcNav_GID,1552,mpdcNav,%7C3 1885%7C.asp

Speed Cameras (The Photo Enforcement Zones):
http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view,a,1240,q,548201,mpdcNav_GID,1552,mpdcNav,|318 86|.asp

This contains both the stationary cameras as well as the most likely places that the mobile ones can occur.

Hey guys,

I wrote up a little script that will lookup the GPS coordinates for Washington D.C. for the cameras. Is there a specific format I should post these in that is standard for loading into GPS systems as POI's? (I don't have a GPS system... just trying to help out... and this way when I get around to buying one I'll have my data ready).

Right now I have stuff in the format:
Suitland Parkway SE and Stanton Rd. SE, Washington, D.C.
38? 51' , -76? 59' 38.859 , -76.994

This was taken from a website interface, where the first one uses degrees (showing up as ?). I am not sure which is which, but I know there's two GPS formatting systems to use, and I figured for now I can include both. Anyways let me know how I should format these so that they're easy to use.

Ok scratch that last question. I am using the second one, since that seems to be the one more commonly used in the US. I posted some of the results I got from my script, but I think I am going to go back and try a better source to get more precise coordinates when I have more time.

We should use the same format as the guys at http://www.poinusa.com/

So for each city, we should perhaps load the GPS compatible files which automatcially load these POI alerts. For garmin that would be POI loader format... tomtom has a similar one also.

Actually at the risk of sounding like a smartalec with my first post.... if you "beat" the red light, you won't get a ticket in the mail. That ticket will only show up if you do NOT beat the light.
