I was a big fan but after getting two SE (?) units , my unit was stopped being made. Wonder why.

Sadly, hardware comes and goes, and it is a bad thing for city dumps. I won't pounce on V1 fans, but Valentine's sales pitch is buy the hardware and we'll update the hardware with software forever. This is not how things are done in the real world of "Spy vs Spy." Technology and hardware evolve quickly, and to keep pace you'll have to shell out for new hardware about every 4 years. Sux, but it's the hard knocks of rd tech.

I just bought a second DFR5 for a friends car. The DFR5 is also known as the LRD750. It's the cat's meow without LNA (low noise amplification). LNA is essentially additional circuits that boost a distant weak signal allowing the chipset further analysis of a signal. The problem with LNA is it's slow, taking extra samples to make a determination of a friend or foe signal.

In your position I'd try a DFR5 while they still exist. You want the skinny, Google LRD750 and read the Amazon reviews. Sadly, Amazon only has DFR6 reviews in the DFR5 purchase room, where the DFR5 is now $99.85. Visions.ca currently has these gem's for $200.00. Go figure.

Have fun!
