Re: STi and Laser in Barrie, Ontario
Just to chime in here gentlemen,
I've been running an LI 7.06 and STi-R in southern ontario for the last 1.5 years and have never, ever recieved a ticket in all that time.. Yes, doesnt' sound that impressive until I get down to how much I drive...
I drive a lot (like 60,000+ Km a year), and I like to get where I'm going fast.. that means I may occasionally (ok, everytime) speed.. by alot..
I've been tagged with laser by pretty much every single police department in Southern Ontario and only ONE time was I pulled over by an OPP in regards to an LA jam code... Yes, I was pulled over because he suspected I had a jammer.
Now take a deep breath, I still have my jammer and my RD, so obviously this story has a happy ending.
The officer had no clue, not even the slightest clue what a jammer looks like, how it works or where it would be located. He just asked me why he got a jam code on his gun, looked around my dash for a few min and let me go. He admitted to me he saw a show called "Speeders" where he heard about jammers and he thought maybe I had one... *rolls eyes*
Now, knowing full well that the LA throws these jam codes on a regular basis, I just held my poker face and said I had no idea what he was talking about... he apologized for wasting my time and went on his way.
I've hit OPP when doing IN EXCESS of 140Km / hour and my jammer has worked every time. I've hit York Regional at 30Km / over, the officer didn't even look twice at my car when I slowed down, killed the jammer and passed him... I've hit Peel, Durham and Barrie cops in the same scenario with exactly the same results.
SO RELAX. Kill the jammer when you get down to speed, and if you do get the attention of a LEO take a deep breath and act stunned and stupid.
If you don't have the balls to jam, don't speed. I'd rather pay the $1,000 fine *IF* I get caught then pay the fines and insurance increase I was paying WHEN I got caught.. and I can promise you if the day ever comes that I do get caught, I'll replace all my equipment the very day they seize it.

Your response: "I'll show you, but then I'll have to kill you"!

Great post. Not surprised the OPP have moved to Laser Atlanta from the old 20/20s. But I rarely see laser up north. I saw one LA. They have experimented with it, but have since moved to I/O for the vast majority of enforcement.
I agree with you about use of jammers. The chances of getting caught are slim, and there are so few people with them that it doesn't make much sense to go looking for them.
Laser's benefits only seem to be useful in high traffic areas. Otherwise, it is surely tedious and annoying to have to keep looking through a sight glass rather than just point and pull an I/O trigger.
Re: STi and Laser in Barrie, Ontario
I haven't seen a laser gun being shot in about two months, during which time I've racked up about 10,000km of driving, but it's always good to have every countermeasure possible within your budget ;)
I'll agree with the statement that I/O is extremely popular, I've noticed less than 50% of highway LEO's use C/O around here unless they're very lazy. In the city, about 10% of LEO's use C/O, which doesn't really surprise me. The city isn't exactly the smartest place to speed anyways because of the ever prevalent threat of false alerts.
On a 400km trip last week, I encountered 7 highway patrol officers. Three were cruisers patrolling the highway with I/O, three were patrolling with C/O, and one was on the side of the road running C/O, although I often see cars in the same spot running I/O.
