I too have a Bel 980 but mine no longer functions correctly. Anyway I bought this unit because of its performance and the ability to reprogram to keep it up to date which turned out to be false advertising. I am considering contacting Bel directly about their blatant false advertising and see what they have to say. I may press the matter even further if they try to shrug it off. Maybe I will get something out of them like a nice discount on a new RX65 or something. If they give me a hard time I will have my friend (attorney) send them a proper letter with a threat for a lawsuit.
Anybody know if they still do the upgrade discount if you send in your old unit?
Also how does the Bel 980 compare to the much newer RX65 performance wise? Is the RX65 much better than the old 980?
I believe they give you up to $50.00 off the purchase of a new RD.
They might give $80 for a trade in value. That's what they offered for my 985. I liked the 985 so well I decided to keep it.
Ex- f body owner here. Current GTO owner. I do miss the aggressive looks of the WS6 TA, but the goat has its advantages too.

Quality wise and reliability the older Bel Vector series 980 and up are much better. Detection wise you will get increased detection on the RX65 with KA but not by a huge margin around 20 to 30 percent more. The detection range on the Bel 980 is awesome same as 985, if you enable Autosweep and disable X band, SWS and all the other crap you dont need detection will be almost as good as the RX65, make sure it stays in Highway mode after you make these changes. Just make sure X band is not being used in your area before disabling it. Bottom line is if you state does not use POP dont worry about it just apply appropriate changes to the RD to maximize its performance. Here in Miami we have POP so i opted for the V1 otherwise i would have happily stayed with my Bel Vector 985 the best detector ive had next to the V1. Wait for the next gen of RD's that hopefully be more reliable, this is only 6 months away maybe less. And if you absolutely must have a detector i would recomend no other than the V1 one or STI.Quote:
