I have my 9500ci head mounted about 8" above the road and it kicks butt.
Higher is better, but outside low is better than inside high in my opinion.
Low in front, do not let anything block the head!!!!!

Hi,
Nobody in the thread talks about vertical versus horizontal mounting. My understanding is that vertical mounting is ideal especially for multinova detection. Any thoughts or opinions?
Here is what Beltronics told me in an e-mail today:
"Thank you for your interest in Beltronics. The radar antenna will perform as designed as long as it is not encased in metal. So behind the grill is an excellent spot for it, but the installer should have the best idea for where it will fit best in your specific vehicle."
So I asked my installer buddy and the first thing he said was to put it behind the grill. The plastic pleats on my grill have no bearing on radar performance. He even said it will peform better as opposed to it being fully exposed below the license plate. The higher the better.
Now I'm REALLY confused...
Where is that Mem-tek video? It may help the OP.
Comebackkid, I know Beltronics tells you one thing but I would listen to djrams80 before I listen to them(on countermeasures that is). Even plastic can degrade your performance.
Here's another don't put it behind the grille.I had mine installed behind the grill. The V1 picked up a stationary LEO 3.5 miles away. The STI-R picked the signal up less than .5 mile away.I moved it to the lower grill area with the antenna free of obstruction. Now it has great off axis and in most cases better range than the V1.
In general, don't take the advice of your installer on where to install. Tell the installer to place it where the experienced members of this forum say. Reading these threads I've concluded that most of the install guys are NOT experts on radar or laser counterneasures. They are good at wiring them up, but not picking optimal locations to mount.
Behind grill is really bad. Been there done that. Search you tube for mem-tek videos then you can see for yourself.
Fellas. Thanks for sharing real life experiences and solid advice. You would think the crew at Beltronics would have a better grasp on this stuff.
So it looks as if I'll be mounting it exposed below the license plate having to cut the lower grill.
