actually this may be just be a possibility due to the merged twin antenna system. I believe it acts as a L/O leak buffer. If one got misaligned the L/O may have been detectable.
All of the above is total NONSENSE. Furthermore to the best of my knowledge there has never been an M3 that has been successfully detected by a Spectre at more than 1 meter distance. For that to occur the detector would have to have been severely tampered with.
It's a possibility but I am sure it is very rare. Another thing that could happen is that the L/O might for some strange reason start to operate at a slightly higher frequency then the filtering system is designed to handle.
No it's not a possibility. Usually I let the nonsense on this forum just go on but lately forum posters are reposting the nonsense over and over and people are starting to take it as fact.
The LO emissions are kept at such a low level as to be undetectable by Spectre at distances beyond 1 meter due to several factors in the design of the M3 antenna system. Most of the isolation comes from the LNAs (RF amplifiers) that are in the front end of the horn. Essentially these LNAs block emissions from the LOs from radiating back out of the horn launch, additionally there are RF absorbers placed in the horn channels, as well as microwave absorptive paint on the bottom side of the pcb. The LOs are Phase Locked tuned every few minutes to ensure that the LO remains on frequency.
So no it isn't really a possibility.
But this doesn't explain the why the TWO horns are needed now does it?
The antenna system is a BIG part of it. They act as a microwave band block filter for the L/O's
How do I know this? From seeing people used modified antennas systems to make the v1 undetectable that's how.
If rf absorbers are placed in the horn channels do you realize what that would also do?
Think about it.
Microwave absorbing paints on the PC board? Interesting idea. Doesn't help a lot though.
Low noise amp and oscillators are indeed a big help and all quality detector companies are now using them but they don't block microwave emissions out of the horn.
Phase look cloop circuitry isn't a guarantee that the L/O will stay in tune The MPH radar uses a similar PLL system and has to be sent in periodically for retuning.
