Default STi-R detection sometimes weak on Ka

    Hey guys!

I've been a happy user of STi-R before the summer. At summer, after a year of use, I faced some problems. At first I thought it was just the conditions or something, but with time I realized it was for real.

My STi-R is detecting Ka band sometimes in a normal way, but sometimes it starts alerting only like 200 meters away from the radar. It starts with 1-2 bars and continues like that all the way until I pass the source and it stops alerting. And that's on a straight road, believe me, I know what it's been like before and how it's working now. I am absolutely sure that the unit is in the same place, same position, same conditions of the road... Problem isn't being caused by any other factor than the RD itself.

Is this "normal" that it detects very well from time to time? I've been reading this forum for couple of years and got the feeling that when detection range drops, the problem occurs constantly, not from time to time.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Well, first, make sure you are not basing your observations against forward facing radar. Usually, it would be very weak while you approaching the source but when you pass it, you should have full strength.

Now based on what i read it looks like you are not experiencing this. Keep in mind you may think you know "the source" but it could coincidentally may be another source which is far away, or off axis.

Try to observe a little more, if not, you'll have to send it in. It either works good or doesn't!!

Weather conditions, and position of the officer how he is angled will render radar detection performance. Also your unit may need to go in for a checkup.

    Thank you guys!

As I said, I am 100% sure that there's nothing wrong with any of the conditions. I faced this problem many times and I can obviously see that the action of my RD is different compared to what it was before.

Sending my unit to Bel may be a bit difficult as I'm in Europe, but I'll do some more testing to be 110% sure that there's something wrong and see what's best thing to do after that.

Are you using segmentation or do you have the entire ka band on?Sometimes radar guns will be out of calibration and will be out of the band you have turned on.Check out this thread and the vid.It happened the same way you said on the video.http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...guard-off.html

There are two frequencies in use:
    Multanova 34,36 GHz
    Stalker Dual 34,7 GHz

I am using segmentation and have following segments activated:
    Ka4 (34.184 - 34.592)
    Ka5 (34.592 - 34.808)
    Ka7 (34.143 - 35.383)

I have never faced these problems before, it always either alerted or not when I saw the source. But suddenly these "semi-alerts" started to occur even though I see the source and it isn't just some random off-axis alert coming from the source I cannot locate.

I'm having more or less the same problem with my STI-R against Multanova 6F. One year ago my antenna was serviced by Escort and detection was very good (>500m from behind). Now sensivity decreased at about 40 percent. I noticed it at a fixed speed cam during my daily drive to work and some other locations (all Multanova 6F).

I think I will have to do some more testing. The problem is that encounters are very rare here...

If you continue to notice poor detection with your STi-R Plus then contact your installer. If you installed the system yourself then contact us for service.
