Ahhh ok ,so would it pick up radar 2 kms away on a clear hiway not hill noobstructions (hypothetic) or would u have to be closer?

Yes basically. If they were perfectly aligned (the radar and the detector) and in space you could catch it light-years away :P Curves, hills, etc will all hurt the detection range.
