Default Let the Ring videos begin . . . and I'm not talking no Lord of the Rings

A good driver in a good car on a good day with some practice will struggle to get around all 13.7 miles in under 10 minutes. enjoy.

    Ring facts:
Derek Bell holds the single lap record from 1983 of 6:25.91 in a Porsche 956 race car.

F1 ace Jackie Stewart, despite a masterful victory in the rain in the 68 German GP disgustedly described it as the Green Hell.

You can easily burn through one set of tires after three laps

The 13-mile circuit is arguably the most difficult and dangerous track anywhere in the world—and despite that, it's open to the public!

Manufactures test their cars on the ring and estimate one day at the track is worth 30,000 miles actual road time.

If you're ever in Nurburgring and you don't have a car. You can rent a taxi to take you around in less than 9 minutes.

Each corner has it's own name spraypainted on the track. And the names of the fatalities each corner has claimed.

You'll notice in this compilation that what kills people is the highspeed elevation changes. When the suspension is off-loaded at high speed and you have to turn it can yield some unpleasant results. You won't recognize it from the film unless your very familiar with the track but the Km3 mark (Schwedenkreuz) in one such spot. Anything more than 100 mph over that hill and your going off.

LOL! I drive it every afternoon when I get home from work. Crack a beer, sit in the racing chair and run two or three laps. Good time!

The impulsive stab at the brakes, when the driver realizes they are going to fast, also tends to cause weight to shift to the front, unloading the rear suspension even more.

I started using a little trail braking to get my car to turn in a little easier to some corners during open track days, but you have to be careful to not do it too much, or else either the back end swings around too much, or the added weight on the front makes understeer more likely. The first couple track days, it was always brake while straight, and off the brakes by the turn in point.
