Re: 32 hrs 7 Minutes: New Teaser Clip, INSANE!!
So, what exactly is the point in all of this? I mean, is there any money in it? Yeah, the "winner" gets some sponsorship money and fifteen minutes of fame, but there can only be one winner. So what's in it for everyone else? Is there a living to be made here, like NASCAR driving, or is it just a rich kid hobby, with which most never intend to make a dime?

Man this ain't about money OR racing. It's about living life man. Just like Alex Roy said, what answer are you going to get when you ask mountain climbers why they risk their life to climb a mountain that's considered unclimbable? Those who are brave enough to try aren't doing it for money, or even the fame, it's just something you do because others say it can't be done, and it's got to be prolly one of the best feelings in the world to achieve something others claim is impossible.

Well, of course, regarding setting a record, I understand that and totally agree with your assessment. I was referring more to the whole "rally" concept as a whole. At most of them, there are no big records set. Just a bunch of idiots driving like, well... idiots.

Oh you're referring to the Gumball type Rallies.... Actually the entry fee goes to charity & cost. Now I'm not 100% sure if some of the money is used for a purse prize or if there is just a big time underground bet going on. I'm pretty sure its the later. Especially so when alot of these guys get arrested for doing 120+ they don't get charged with Street Racing or if they do their lawyers will take care of that as to why its a "Rally".
This movie isn't a rally... Its just their single car going unannounced trying to break the record.
Also yeah..... its just for the game. Thrill seeking. Got to have a little fun in this life we only live once!

I think that's the whole point of the Rally, there's no "intent" to exceed the speed limits and the drivers who do are individually responsible as they sign a waiver at entry. So it basically gives a "wink and nod" "legal" event where the Rally is just for the enjoyment of driving across the country and the individual drivers race each other without the entire rally being able to be accused of street racing.
Re: 32 hrs 7 Minutes: New Teaser Clip, INSANE!!
the movie is going to be sick
Re: 32 hrs 7 Minutes: New Teaser Clip, INSANE!!
The record run is all about doing it as a personal goal. Alex as said by others uses the analogy for mountain climbers the ultimate goal is Everest. For some drivers it is getting accross the county in record time
They aren't doing this for the fame or the glory just to know that it can be done. If you do it just for the fame and glory you lose sight of the danger

If we ever put together an RDnet attempt, I would definitely want to fly one of the planes.
Who wants to be my spotter/radioman?

Runsflats + a few 18 wheelers along the way with drop down ramps + a pit crew inside :D Then roll right back out
If you were like bill gates, what you could do would be beyond our imagination.
(edit) Hell it would just be easier to bribe the chiefs of each department for a clear road/window!
Chief just calls in a few reassignment locations, easy as pie!
