Re: Insurance company monitoring your car!
So recalibrate your speedometer to always read around 40% lower and wire up a disconnect switch for your OBD2 and you'll be good to go.

I wonder if I'd qualify for a discount...no way in HELL! They'd cancel me as fast as they could.
Then you're not a good candidate for Snapshot, and you should probably not volunteer for the program. It's offered so that unenthusiastic drivers can prove how mildly they drive. Also, it does not monitor where you drive, and Interstate speed in a school zone is OK by Snapshot, just don't slam the brake when you realize you're 55 over...:)
Re: Insurance company monitoring your car!
Why not put it on a commuter train? They can't stop fast, even if they need to.
This is just one more reason not to like progressive. They are the insurance company that:
- Assists police departments in buying lidar guns
- Has a clause in their policy that denies you coverage if you use a radar detector (not that they would be able to know)
- From what I have seen are total boobs about paying when a loss occurs
- And now wants to track your daily driving habits
Screw them, I'll spend my money somewhere else.

Pretty sure that uses gps to get speed not the speedo

I'm pretty sure you have Progressive confused with Geico?

Well, now that I'm searching on it, yes, I do have them confused. It is Geico that has the radar detector clause and that gives laser guns to police departments. Google is a wonderful thing!

I was going to say... I've been with Progressive for almost five years now; if they were doing all that stuff too I'd have to drop them immediately and kick myself for basically not having insurance for all that time. My cars are hardwired for detectors so they would know.

Another day, I would do ABS brake testing===> Maybe 20+ hard brakes... just to screw with the people who read the data.
You know what's funny... literally 15 minutes ago, I was out on some deserted country road braking to a stop from different speeds. Deer season is coming up and I think it's important to practice. I wonder what Progressive would think of that...
I wouldn't trust anyone who
hasn't braked hard in their lives before.
Its the anniversary of my deer accident today... so yea its time to start practicing...
Re: Insurance company monitoring your car!
What amazes me is how people Volunteer this info to the insurance companies. You already give them annual miles driven when setting up your policy. How you drive your car is your freedom and none of their business IMO.
Re: Insurance company monitoring your car!
Take the device off and put it on a Police Car... see how they drive for a day and what the insurance company thinks of them.
