Yes when comparing the two i am. In city mode the STi-R is fairly quiet, more so the the V1. I was pleasantly surprised at that. With automute on the R is tolerable in city driving, not as quiet as the ci or ix, but not as chatty as the V1.

That is very interesting. I think that I and a lot of others naturally assumed that the STi-R would be all but unbearable if used in suburban environments. It sounds like Bel did a good job of balancing the city filters for good sensitivity yet not overly obnoxiously frequent false alerts. I definitely want to go for a spin with you to see the STi-R in action for myself.

Well then the only way to compare true K band performance is on the highway with the StiR on Highway mode not city mode since the stiR filters K band in city modes.
Re: Comparing the V1 to the STi and 9500ci...
Yes it does quite a good job of filtering K band too. It has to be a fairly strong K band signal for the R to alert to it in city mode. One of the reasons I tend to stay in hughway mode 95% of the time.

This is what I have been wondering. I remember hearing that city mode is like highway mode on the sti which I can stand, and I can't remember where i heard this but i did, i promise. Its bareable then unless IM really in the city, then i might go crazy, but i usually only take that trek once a month.

this is awsome, and I think that i may reccommend this system more after hearing this.
Also you shouldn't worry about k band performance this is good, Ka is where its important and where the sti-r comes into play. This is what im intrested in, i'll be glad if it does same performance as my regular sti does lol on k

My STi-R is mounted low also (I assume even lower than on your F-150) and in Heavy Traffic (bumper to bumper) i see a decrease in performance also.
For some reason my STi-R in Cirty Mode is just about equal with my Sti in Highway mode on K band. They alert at about the same time. If I compare Highway to Highway mode then they the STi-R alerts at about twice the distance on 4 K band door openers (rite aid, cvs, pep boys and autozone)
Othersiwse K band is shut off on the -R . I have sent my STi-R back 2 times and once I told them thought it was weak on K band - but that was when I mounted it behind the plastic. Thinking back I should have just let it be.
I ordered a GX-65 this morning and as long as I am not in a banned area I plan on eliminating all my K band falses - I like the 9500i/Sti-R combo but the plug on the wrong side was not working for my setup.
Re: Comparing the V1 to the STi and 9500ci...
Well I have officially abandoned the V1, in favor of the STi-R. In city mode around town it falses less than the V1. In highway mode it seems to beat the V1 in most scenarios.
Still have the V1 in the Vette with the 9500ci, as there the potential for a massive ticket keeps me wanting all the countermeasures available.

Well that was the idea to get the stiR. I am glad it is working out for you, and it seems city mode is not as bad as some reported.

Mem-tek,
I enjoyed reading your review and the discussion around the STI, STI-R, V1 and 9500ix.
