Compare the ix to the 3.864 and 3.863 (and I've seen posts here that in side testing the 3.872 with KA guard on was simmilar to those 2) and you'll see the ix did better than the V1 in many areas.
I own a 3.864 and an ix and I can say the performance is pretty close in most areas (maybe a slight edge in K to V1, tie to slight edge to ix on 33.8)
That said my V1 is not as good of unit as my 1.7 was. I need POP protection so I upgraded (unfortunately I'm blessed to be in a all MPH radar area), but I've regretted every bit of it. I think VR has went down in range over recent years and thats why the ix is = to the V1 now. Just look at the 3.813 compared to the 3.864 to illistrate my point.
I really hope the Redline kicks V1's butt all around the magazine tests (since these are the ones that generate the big number of sales even if they are poorly conducted), as I feel something needs to be done to get VR back on the ball. I feel they've just been "coasting" lately and Escort (despite many flaws) has really been trying to offer new equipment (as well as plenty of newly relabled equipment). I see no reason my 3.864 should have LESS range than the older detectors, but it does.
Your delusional. Please refer to the non-real world test, where the V1 was ran with Ka Guard On. The 9500IX got beat by the Cobra....
After spending 20 hours in a car with 3 to 4 people testing these things, not one of us waited for best buy to open at 10am to buy IXs. Hell, I would think anyone who was in the car would of had it on eBay by now.
Then explain the "real world test" where the 3.864 got beat in K band by the IX and on all three K bands? I own both and can tell you (based on my K and 33.8 KA experience) that my 3.864 V1's doesn't have the range advantage they used to. Maybe V1 has quality issues and 1/2 the detectors aren't as good as the others, but My experience and these results aren't that far apart. As to the IX, I didn't say it was the answer as it wasn't the best either, but the Cobra slam fits pertty good considering the Cobra did beat the V1 in many of the real world tests.
People are getting a little touchy about saying anything negitive about V1 around here. In the Escort forum the Q/T thing is continually complained about trying to get them to fix it. I'd think letting VR know what they need to do wouldn't be a bad thing either. I've sent my 3.864 in due to ghosting and was told that it worked great and had better sensitivity than most and they didn't recomend messing with it since it might loose range. Well considering my IX had the same range (replaced with a ci with much, much more range than either), they were either blowing sunshine up my butt to avoid a warranty repair or Escort has caught up in the range department.
Because those 3.864 & 3.863 detectors have been in the field for over a year and half or more. They where not new in box, they have been setting in the heat, cold, etc.
If you look back at the 2007 & 2008 tests the 3.863 & 3.864 finished at the top.
You do realize on some bands the V1 was able to double the range of the IX? On the controlled side we tested multiple V1s with Ka Guard On...
Please trying sticking to what the data actually says, not making up your own.
I have over 5K miles logged with a 9500i, I'm not just making things up, or trying to blow smoke.
You're going to have to splain this to me, I'm looking at the data and I'm not seeing what your saying.
Real World test. Throwing out 3.813 since not availalbe and throwing out KA guard off since its unrealistic, that leaves the 3.864 and 3.863. Comparing these and the ix only (I feel all three go beat, so I'm not defending the ix)
Both V1s wind K band
The IX wins 33.8
They split the midle with the IX notching between the V1s on 34.7
the IX wins 35.5
On the Semi Scientific side, I didn't use the photo radar since it doesn't apply to me so I don't really look at that much, but the straight line 33.8 I don't see much difference between IX and V1 (again excluding Ka guard off units and 3.813) it noched between the two regular V1's. Yes, the IX didn't do well in the off angle tests, but on all the others it did quite well so I think its hard to say the V1 smoked it don't you? I also agree from my experience the ix has tunnel vision, but when the original post was "detection distance"
As to the year and a half old, I expect my detectors to work for a period of time, so I don't accept that excuse, the 3.813's are even older, yet generated better results.
There are lots of excuses as the why the 3.863/4 did badly, but none of them make VR look good.
I'm not trying to start a fight, just thinking many here are looking at the results with blinders, to me the STI (and -r) was the big winner in the RANGE contest unless VR starts selling 3.813's again. I'm not saying there aren't other things that make the V1 great, but I'd think the V1 zombies would be pushing VR to work to get at least AS good of range as the 3.813 had, if not better instead of saying they're the best and calling it good. I'm a range junkie and I live in the middle of nowhere, nothing but corn fields so its the most important thing. Thats why I have a 9500ci (my 3.864 has NEVER alerted before my ci when I was running both on x, K or 33.8, never had anything else to test). I'd like to see VR return to the top as I'd far rather buy $399 detectors to satisfy my range desires than buy $1500 detectors.

That is an inaccurate perception. They're not touchy about the V1. They're touchy about people saying negative things about their testing efforts, which is what I see much of this as being.
What would be the point of being touchy about the V1? Every GOL member owns multiple Escort products. Most of them have a CI or STi-R in their personal vehicle. None of them sell V1s or any other detector. The event sponsor sells Escort. So it's just beyond me how anyone could perceive a pro-V1 agenda here simply from reading the test results.
I see a lot more touchiness over Escort products here than V1.
Re: Escort 9500 in GOL '07 vs '09
I guess its more of a fourm thing than a GOL, just like this topic, I get comments like "Your delusional." for posting what I see in the results. I've posted why I feel that way and it just seems like its just a pro V1 only on many of these forums (nothing to do with GOL, rather just these forums). There are different ways to look at the results, but I prefer to look at them as someone who's looking to purchase a new detector (and usually I am). Some just want to feel could about their purchase, but I guess thats not me (both my V1 and my Escort products have issues I'd really like to see adressed).
I also think many on these forums are using this data to determine purchase, and lets be honest, range is what 90% will be comparing. Many I feel are getting false information. This isn't coming from GOL, they clearly state the KA guard off and what version of V1 was tested. About the only data I see that I think should be added is I belive Freebird has said his STI Driver is a Pre-ramp fix model, and if that can affect performance I think it should be noted in the results (just like KA guard was) since the new production may not have as good of results.
Looking at things the way I am (future purchase) is it not correct to exclude the 3.813 since I can't order one from Valentine? Also Is it not correct to exclude the 3.872 with KA guard off since I don't think I can live with one that way (I'm currently trying my 3.864 with guard off thanks to these results, but I don't think I can live with the falses), so that leaves the 3.864/3 to represent the V1 camp, and I think that provides the fairst/best information we can with what data is presented.
However, many on these forums are saying the 3.872 is smoking all other detectors, and with KA guard off, it did, but I don't think many newbies will understand this and I think that makes for false information, not the fault of GOL, but of some posters on this site. Nothing wrong with it their just proud of thier detector, but many will use these results, much as I used the last jammer test radar results to convince me to buy my 9500ci (and I'm glad I did, my experience has been very simmilar to the results posted)
Is there anything wrong with the GOL testing, no, theres always room for improvement, and the biggest improvement we'd all like to see is much more testing, but no matter how much testing is done, I'll always want more. That said, I don't see how you find the time to do what testing you already do, I know I couldn't free up the time to do it.
Sorry for the rant, I just don't like being called wrong, when I clearly see data that says otherwise. With more data things could change and change again, I'm just going with whats available.

The ix didn't beat the V1 on K. The Ka performance of the V1's in this test is poor and I have no explination as to why.
However, I own both a 3.864 and a 9500ix.
The 3.864 is better than the 9500ix at everything but 35.5 off-axis.
Reading the results of this test is like opening a car mag and reading that a 350Z got beat by a stock Scion tc.
It might have happened at the test, but I own both, and I know my Z is much faster than my Scion.

My bad on the K band, sometimes my brain runs faster than I type, I corrected it.
I wonder if the 3.864 has issues with variance unit to unit, since yours is better than your ix, and mine was virtually identical in performance (had K band advange, ix had 33.8 advantage). Mine was one of he last of these, same time I got mine someone posted on here they got a 3.872, I wish I'd have waited a week as I always thought it should outperform the ix.

Exactly! I based my decision to buy the 9500ix on the 2007 GOL test results; otherwise I would have bought a V1. If Escort hadn't announced the Redline, I'd have bought a V1 by now. I like electronic gadgets, and for a lot of my daily driving, being able to lockout locations with the ix is absolutely worth a loss of range to me, because I drive an an area with Nazi-like speed enforcement, and I don't want to get a ticket if I drift 3-4 MPH over the PSL.
On the other hand, when I'm out on the road, I need all the range I can get.
Now, is the Ka-gaurd option one of the differences between the V1's tested in 2007 vs 2009? It was mentioned that with it OFF the amount of falsing could be unbearable; would having it OFF in a situation like highway driving still be intolerable in terms of falsing? Since I don't have a V1, I'm depending on users to fill me in on this.
My typical highway trip, such as last week, was leave Nashville on Wed afternoon and drive to Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Kokomo, IN. On Fri I drove from Kokomo to Angola (NE IN) and back to Indy. Then Sunday I drove from Indy back to Nashville via Cincinnati. 1300 miles total.

I would say it's more tuning than variance or it could be both...
I bought a brand new 3.864, I didn't realize it until I read the forums, but I had a defective one. VR replaced all the internals and they told me my V1 was defective. Same way, you can get a juiced up V1 or 9500IX...

What you were seeing there was actually frustration from a LONG TIME V1 owner. When some of the test data did not align with my personal experience I couldn't help but question the test methodology itself.
I've had V1s since the first pre-laser edition..........up to the monster box 1.7 and thru to the 1.8 3.864 and 3.872 versions. Xcr440sp's experience is very similar to my own..........the V1 has beguiled me with seemingly worse performance with each new version.
The 3.864 in GOL's recent test was very representative of my 3.864 and 3.872. Either version was damn near line of sight in my neck of the woods (literally). I sent the 3.864 back to VR twice and was told no problems (the 2nd time I had Mike the tech check it personally). I gave up on it and switched to a V995 which was better on 35.5 (but still sucked overall).......then went back to V1 when 3.872 came out. Still basically just a little better than line of sight. I drove around for while like a kuke with Ka guard off but just couldn't take the falsing.
I decided to try the 9500ix based on the 2007 GOL tests..........and damn........it worked for me. I really believe it was much better on 34.7 than either the 3.863 or 3.872 V1s I had. I was now getting alerts 10-30 seconds BEFORE seeing the cop.
So I recognized the 3.863 and 3.864 results from the real world tests. I also new what a 3.872 can do with Ka guard off........and what it won't do with Ka guard on.
The flames I was throwing were more as a result of my disgust with VR than any suspicion of GOL intent. I'm going with the best sensitivity I can get for now as MY biggest threat is IO traps around the bend. The LEOs in my area tend to dish out shots long enough to lock your speed so QT is not my biggest concern. Of course I'll sing a different tune when I get nailed with it for the first time. :D I am not happy with Belscorts response times and in the realm of high end detectors it is indefensible. They need to fix it. But for now I'm choosing that evil.

weird i have the exact opposite, out of 3 v1's, not sure on last 2 versions, but now a 3.872 i get the best detection compared to 2 9500i/ix's
my 9500's gave ample warning sometimes, sometimes barely any
my largest save was from my original v1(who knows how old), my new one has been giving me GREAT k band detection, and acceptable(from what i've seen) ka band detection(i deal with 35.5)
a few of my 9500i/ix detections were jokes, especially forward facing
so i have the exact opposite problem, the v1's out perform the 9500i/ix's immensly.........and 95% of what i deal with is 35.5 :(

I'm choosing the other evil, V1. Escort won't even acknowledge that there is a problem. If they keep selling a trillion units per year, they'll never fix it.
