Those new cars have a diferent braking light that transmits some IR light being LEDs so the X50 being so sensitive it gives you an alert, it can also happen with some emergency lights from ambulances, I had one with a tow truck and an ambulance; also direct sunlight can also trigger the alert.
It was black so I doubt its the sunlight thing, No emergency vehicles in sight.........So I think it was his crappy brake lights transmitting IR (Ive NEVER had any other car with LED brake lights be it Infinity or Acura or anything set off my Laser before, I think GM F-ed up on this one)..........I honestly dunno what happened, but it SCARED ME S**TLESS
I agree on the Emergency vehicles though, a Fire engine with its lights on set off my buddy's X50 once, that scared us too
New developement:
I just moved my radar detector to right beside my rear view mirror and there is no more laser falsing at all so far. Will let everyone know if there is.
Yep, some of the new LED breaklights can cause laser falsing, Infinities are supposed to be bad about this too.Quote:

I've had 2 laser falses in the past and I'm pretty sure I know what caused them. Emergency lights from any type of Patrol Car, Ambulance, or Fire Truck can set off laser. Also the glare of the sun off oncoming traffics head lights can set if off as well. I had never had a false before when my detector was mounted low but now since I have it mounted high, I get them every once and awhile. I'm sure it has something to do with the angle its at. As far as your laser falsing, I would say that it's def a "Noisy" Electrical System. There is a device that you can put in between the detector and you car. I have forgot what it's called but I'm sure someone else on here can tell you right off the bat.
It's called a "Noise Suppressor". They cost about $10- $15 from Tandy or any electronic hobby type store.They are dead easy to fit and will reduce if not elliminate any feedback from your alternator in your speakers. :idea:

this is mounted on a motorcycle, directly from the battery, so there isn't much in the way of possible interference.
i plan on doing some testing to narrow down the problem and i'll report back on that.
as for the acceleration issue i was talking to someone yesterday and he mentioned false laser alerts and he found that it seemed more likely on newer vehicles, especially ones with a lot of things computer controlled.
on one vehicle he found that the MAF sensor was the cause. :?:
covering it would stop the falses. go figure.
it seems something in your vehicle may be the issue, since just moving it seems to have stopped the problem, especially if you haven't changed the power source.
let us know if the problem is solved for sure.
after doing some testing on my focus, I have come up with the conclusion.
The only time I get laser falsing is when the detector was in the lower left hand corner of the windshield, (driver side of course) I put it in that corner to avoid my car's bass from making the detector hit against the windshield.
Currently I have it directly in the center, up in the middle of the windshield (it has a clear view from behind me even though I'm not relying on it, because of my window tint)
But I have yet to get a false for laser since moving it.
