X50 making the KA "type sound" to K band

My X50 started making the KA "type" sound to the K band tonight. At first I thought Oh theres a leo around. Nope it was just the false K band signal at my work. It was the double chirp sound but higher pitch. I would have got it on video or taped it with the phone, but did not have either one of those recorders with me. I had wish I did.

It is cold out and the X50 was left in the car, but I have left it in the car w/ much colder conditions and it has never had a issue like this.


Maybe my X50's days are over and its saying, I'M TRYING GIVE ME A REST"

Which means if it does stop, look out new 9500 or V1, maybe even an STI.

Did you try setting your X50 to LOUD? Maybe that would make a difference, I don't know.

No, thanks for the thought though.

It was in the normal setting. I left it there as I was in a hurry to get home. After it alerted like that, I figured once I go back to work I'll see if it's a one time thing or not.

If it does it tonight then I might play around with the settings, reset it and see what it does.

Do a reset SLX50 and get back to us. I hate to see people having problems w/ their X50. After alpinestars got 4 miles range w/ mine, I decided I better keep it. :shock: :shock:

Mine did the exact same thing yesterday. It first gave the Ka type sound to a weak K and then when it picked up another K band it gave sort of alternate beeps, one that sounded like Ka and another that was the regular K. I was in a parking lot, and when I got closer to one of the doors it went to full on alert and the noises were normal.

I turned it off and then back on and it picked up the K's with the normal sound. I'll be over there tomorrow so I will drive the exact same path and see if it happens again ... I didn't think too much about it until I saw your post.

I keep mine in loud mode at all times.

Well it didn't do it last night, but it did a weird tone again today.

Except this time to KA. The Beeps sounded really distorted compared to the normal, then they sounded normal after a bit. Later K band alert came on and it made a weird sound for that and then went normal.

This time it was alerting to an actual radar gun.

I don't know what the deal is.

I think its time for a new detector.

Was it really cold? I used to have a Bel Vector STi that would sound really funky in cold weather. I haven't had a chance to use my X50 when really cold but they do seem to have better speakers than the (older) Bels.

I've had the same thing happen a few times with ole blue. So far, there has been no loss of performance. I'm going to tough it out until I see a persistance of this behavior. IMHO Scott

I bought a Rev 6.1 x50 Red a few weeks ago from Radar Roy. Just today, it made a deeper Ka tone when it picked up a K band signal. I chalked it up to a POP alert, but later the sounds went back to normal. It was about 20F this morning so it wasn't the coldest morning the x50 has seen.
