Yeah, this whole V1 zombie thing sucks on both sides. I don't support the people who say the V1 is the only detector and all other suck, but I also don't support the people who snap back at them. One side has to stop and let common sense speak through.
I personally never talk down the V1. The thing is awesome. I just point out that it is not always the best RD for all situations. But I gotta admit, the zombies do get to me sometimes. Once I see what this new 9500ci is all about, I plan to run it and a V1 at the same time. Then I'll change my screen name to "ErickonRoids". :lol:

Its been my own experience that the more passionate people act toward supporting, defending or knocking another option that usually the worse that option they are supporting so strongly actually is. Nobody wants to feel like they are dumb, or made a dumb decision on something, so they have to go out of their way to justify the choice they made.
The worse of these people are usually very easy to spot and filter out, not just with radar detectors but with everything, they slip in clues to alert you when to put the BS filters on and just ignore them.
Before I make any major purchase (like over $300 minimum) I research what every it is, and what ever other options are out there rather extensively. Customer reviews are a very important part in this. Professional reviews by people like say Cnet as an example can usually be ignored. I ignore the professional reviews because no matter what they say there are always ulterior motives behind their reviews. A bad pro review can indicate that maybe the manufacturer (not the product) pee'd someone off in the reviewer camp. A good pro review can indicate that the manufacturer is being schmoozed to drop some advertising bucks or give up some free sample products for them to test and review.
I mean it would be pretty screwed up if somebody was nice enough to just give you something for free like a gift and then you just turned around and slammed them on it.
Non professional reviews from real customers are vital, but you have to filter through the info carefully. Look carefully at bad reviews for subtle hints of what the person may really be mad about, not all people are overly sharp in the mind to say the least. I see a lot of non pro reviews from people trying to slam the heck out of a product, but if you carefully look at what they are saying you may notice there might not be anything at all wrong with the product, the person maybe doesn't understand how to use it right, or may be mad about something else completely unrelated to the actual product like the shipping company may have taken 2 weeks to over night the package to them. They should be mad at the shipping company, not the product, but the less than sharp person will slam the product.
A lot of non pro reviewers often don't have a second similar product to do a real comparison to. Like they may complain a particular detector gives them way too many false alarms, where if they ever had another model to check next the one they bought may likely have less than all others (just as an example).
That leads to the number one thing I look for by a non pro reviewer and put their comments on instant ignore. The people that claim they own everything and this particular one (what ever it may be) doesn't stack up to any of them. This is an obvious person who spreads the BS a little too thick. We'll use say HDTV's for an example. The guy who claims he has 5 different models of HDTV's and the particular one he is reviewing is so much better, or worse than all the other models he claims to own. Now I know a lot of people, but I don't know that many who own 5 different HDTV's (again only an example). Lets say someone did own 5 HDTV's, I'd find it rather odd that they owned them in 5 different similar brands. Most people tend to be brand loyal or advertisement driven more than anything and these people will typically stick close to a single particular brand so it would be more likely if they did actually own 5 of anything that they owned 5 of the same brand, and thus have no real way of justifying an unbiased comparison.
The same can hold true with radar detectors, the guy who claims he has 5 different models and brands and out of all of them the one is just so much better. Why would the guy even own the 4 other brands if the one he seems loyal to is so much better? Why would anyone own 5 different radar detectors in the first place?
I look carefully at consumer reviews and make a mental list of what many people are saying they do and don't like about something. I pay particular attention to the people who do over all like a product but list the few things they don't like about it. Then weigh all that data into my own well informed choice. Once I reach that point and have made my decision I really don't care what any notorious bashers have to say one way or the other.
In short 8) buy what you like and don’t let anyone’s opinion ruin it for you. :wink:
Some where I herd. The happiest people are the ones that don’t over analyze there purchase before or after because there will always be something better out there.

Let's face it. All of those videos are half full and half empty. Each features will work for one particular scenario. thestaton's video shows when you get "too close" to the source which the 9500i was not designed for and the V1's performance was limited within the 30 sec. threshold. Both have pluses and minuses.
i think some of you guys are missing the point. yes, for the dozen or so of us who are in the know, we can see right thru this. we have the v1...and the 9500i...and others so we know the truth. but the rest of 99% of america does not.
i have the best radar detector in the world in my car and one day it went off and the passenger said "where is the cop." how could i explain? or "hey that trooper just went passed you, why didn't your radar detector go off?"
the video has a point. and most people will believe it. it's not a lie is it? i've had v1 for a long long time and it's a love hate relationship. the biggest smile you'll ever have when you sniff out ka at long range or k-band behind you with arrows. but it has got to be the most annoying thing....worse than somebody else's crying baby in your own backseat....until you program it. there's probably 100 people in all that "program" their v1 lol.
anyway, if i didn't know any better, i'd chose the 9500i. as the layperson, i don't care about cops and who has what radar and if it's on or not or whatever. i just don't want to get caught speeding. that's it. that's all. nothing more. if i am driving 20mph, i could care less if my radar detector beeps or not, cop with radar on, whatever. i'm not out there keeping track of where the man is and what he is doing or what his tactics are, i'm 95% of america, i'm on my phone, i'm listening to stern. my rd is just a tool to save my license, that's all.
but my 9500i has other "flaws" that does not yet permit it to be #1 imo. my programmed v1 rocks!
