I used to have a Passport x-50 I used on my motorcycle mounted behind the winscreen. I ordered a tinted windscreen and on cloudy days it worked fine, but if it was sunny, within 5 seconds of turning it on the sun coming thru the tinted windscreen would make it go full laser alert and I would have to disable laser to use it mounted looking thru the tinted windscreen.. Could your laser falses be from tint on your windshield etc?

Sun doesn't seem to be a problem for the 9500i. I've read a similar claim before and actually taken mine off the mount and aimed it directly into the sun before, no false laser alert from doing so.

Depending on the version of the x50, this laser-false comparison can be a bit hard to make/confusing.
For example, my friend's (likely S7 platform) Rev.5 x50 never falsed laser in his vehicle - yet his 9500i did (which eventually required Escort's "massage").
With my 9500i, I got a laser false both with an HID-flicker as well as at the local airport (Cleveland International) - neither ever happened with my Rev.5 (also suspect S7 platform, again due to its vintage/time-of-purchase) x50, which itself, strangely, *always* falsed laser to a local municipality's LED-strobe equipped service vehicles. And guess what? Yup, the 9500i doesn't false to this one.   Go figure.
For me, at least, the 9500i has not falsed to either direct/bright sunlight exposure nor "flickering" sunlight (think driving at-speed through a tree-covered secondary road). The latter consistently gets my ZR3's *rear* head to false.

FWIW:
I've had one laser alert in 4 months with my 9500i: I was pulling out of a parking lot, facing into the rising sun with the RD looking through a fogged/icy windshield - and I was within a mile of a major airport.
Not an LEO, I'm thinking.

Laser falses
I too have been getting laser falses with my 9500i, but I think it is due to bright sunlight (not a common occurence up here). I considered sending the unit back to escort for the "fix" but am not sure now after reading your post. Has anyone had good luck with the "false laser fix"?
-
I would only send it back if it happens all the time, once a month isn’t worth it.

Good to see you here, upstatedoc ! :D

Hey is that you LT? Yeah, the radar forum over on edmunds is pretty dead, it seems that you and I are the only ones chatting about anything over there. I figured there may be a few more folks here who have had their 9500i "tuned" regarding the laser falses. BTW, the legacy gt is an absolute rocket, I test drove one around the time I bought my TL. 8)

Yesterday I had to pick my father up at the airport. While driving him home, I made a left turn so that I ended up facing the setting sun. About 3/4 the way through the left turn is when my 9500i produced a false laser alert. Maybe it had something to do with all of those microscopic pits on my windshield. All those pits looked like very small pieces of glitter stuck to my windshield. The only other time I have had a false laser alert was when the setting sun which was just above the horizon was scintillating through tree branches on a distant hill.

I find it interesting that we are getting false laser alerts (not me yet), and i have found my real laser encounters to be very acceptable. I even had a laser save not too long back that i was very impressed with.
The V1 gets allot of false laser alerts so im starting to think the 9500I is now as sensitive as the V1 in laser too.
