Default Escort Passport 9500i Blue LED - Rear View Mirror Mount

Does anyone have any links to.. or knows where I can buy a Rear View Mirror Mount for the Passport 9500i??

I heard someone hard wired theirs into the power in the mirror and the power goes on and off at the same delayed time when you take the key out.

I also heard that the mount that attaches it to the rear view mirror; you can press one button and put the radar detector into a glove box or move it too another vehicle whenever.

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone has a link to where I can buy one of these.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

Here is the mount for the rear view mirror, I have one for my Valentine and the quality is outstanding.

The power tap you are looking for is called invisicord.

I owned one of these, and while it's a nice product it does not come with an inline fuse. So I would recommend adding a fuse to it, if you are going to use it.

    Cheers,

    Hey man,

    from this page: http://www.invisicord.com/order.paypal.html

how long of a cable would I need would you think?
I'm assuming 8" if I buy that rear view mirror mount and the "12 if I'm mounting the radar with suction cups on the windshield?

Also- where do I get an inline fuse since you said it doesn't come with it?

    Thanks again,
    Anthony

He can't answer for you how long of a cord you would need, your the one there looking at it, hold it up there and measure it.

You can buy a complete inline fuse kit at any auto parts store, factory fuse from Escort is 3 AMP, the 9500i even at max draw will never pull more than 0.5 AMP, so a 1 AMP fuse would serve you the best.

The power output at your RVM likely already has a small 3-5 AMP fuse on it though. I wouldn't ruin the cosmetic effect of the invisicord by installing the fuse directly on it. I'd open up the RVM housing, or go under the dash to the wiring leading up to it and installing the inline fuse there if it doesn't already have one in the circuit.

You can find out by looking the service manual for your car up for free here...

(Select the "Repair Info" option and look up your model, make and year vehicle)

Keep in mind, one disadvantage of using that invisicord, even though it does make for a clean and easy install, is you lose your external mute button that Escorts actual hard wire cord and pi[i][i/]g tail cord has. That mute button becomes a pretty handy feature of the 9500i for hitting three quick times to easily lock out false sources.

X2. Mine is really high and mostly covered by the infamous block dots and my GPS acquisition is fine. However my auto bright is worthless.

I actually can't answer this myself because I haven't received my car yet. ops: It will be shipped to me next week. That's why I thought I would ask this now so that I could figure everything out ahead of time.

I don't see why it would, I currently have my detector mounted directly (like almost touching) the RVM and my GPS reception is perfect. I've even visor mounted mine at times and GPS reception still always works fine for me. The only time I have ever heard my 9500i report it was unable to obtain a GPS lock has been when I turn it on while in a parking garage.

Some of the areas that have actually surprised me in obtaining a GPS connection has been in the Lake Tahoe area up around some of the ski resorts. Many of these mountain roads are at the bottom of very deep, steep walled and narrow valleys. When you look up at the sky there's almost none in actual view, I've often been on some of these roads and wondered how in the hell this thing could possibly be getting a GPS lock. It will certainly tell you when it isn't receiving the sat signal though, you'll see this happen in parking garages. Fortunately it doesn't just try and then give up though, as soon as you leave the parking garage it locks right in, even in the city where the roads are very narrow with tall buildings on either side of you.

Escort of course didn't design or build the GPS chips and receivers in these, but the company who did, SiRF Technology, certainly has to get some credit for developing a great design and product that works well under even the most extreme conditions (short of a parking garage).

I keep forgetting to get one of these mounts, you know what, thats enough of that, I'm going right after I submit this post and just ordering one. I like the idea of this far better than the suction cup mounts anyhow. It gives you a more secure and reliable mount, it also doesn't stand out to thieves so obviously like the suction cup mounts do even if you take your detector down and hide it under the seat when parked. It won't work in my car because the RVM mount is very weird, but it will work perfectly in my 4X4 and my van since they have more traditional RVM mounting arms.
