Default Interesting find or issue with 9500i Lockout feature.

Today I learned something interesting with the 9500i and I’m not sure if this is a feature and I missed it in the manual and forums but on the base I work at, the police have two permanent stationary radar stands that are shooting KA 24/7 showing drivers there posted speeds. Since there always there I decided to lock them out. When I tried to lock them out, the 9500i would only mute the KA signal and no LOCKOUT indication. I figured something must be wrong, so I took a drive over to the mall where I knew I would get a few good hits from the stores since I haven’t locked them out yet. As I approached the mall, I got a few X and K hits from the stores. I was able to lock them out with no problems.

I knew were another KA radar speed stand was located so I decided to give that one a try and see if I could lock it out. As I approached the radar with the 9500i blaring away, I was unable to lock it out, just mute. I wondering how come I’m able to lockout signals from stores, automated doors, mall etc, but not when facing an actual radar device.

This might have something to do with signal strength (automated doors compared to true radar). This is a good feature I guess which prevents the user from locking out a true radar hit.

Has anyone else seen this and I just missed it. The 9500i is working great and I’m able to lock out all the annoying areas except for radar speed stands.

The 9500I doesn’t lock out KA because its rarely a false. Most cases its a real LEO. In your case a speed sign.

TrueLock on the 9500i allows you to lock out approximately 30MHz wide blocks of false radar sources in each band (Does not lock out whole band). The 9500i cannot lock out Ka band signals (presently there are no typical falsing sources such as door openers or motion sensors that are Ka band signals).

God I hate this... one of the reasons I was thinking of getting 9500ci was to lock out the annoying KA falses in Killeen When I mute the KA false, if a FULL BLAST K band real threat comes while it's muted the detector wont even peep, so I have to constantly look at the display

Yeah, I wish you could mute KA. While they are rare, KA speed signs are very annoying and becoming more and more common.

Why for the love of all that is holy can't the damned door operner/speedsign people stick to one band? Why do they need to be all over the entire radar spectrum???!??!

As I always say if you cant lock out a few falses the other 10 will make you very happy.
I’m pretty sure if you put in Expert mode and you mute a KA false it will audibly mute to a K threat, I think?

I could have swore this was in the manual but I just looked and didn't see anything. This would probably be some handy information to add.

It's in the 9500CI manual. Says you can lock out x,k, and laser.

It’s on Escorts web sight in the "PASSPORT 9500i Tech Talk" section. But not in the manual.
They don’t even tell you in the manual at what speed Auto mode decreases sensitivity (we all know its 15mph). I think they were making some changes on the 9500I when the manual came out and never updated it.

I just double-checked the 9500i manual too. You are right -- nothing is mentioned that TrueLock only works for X and K false alerts since, of course, door openers only operate on either X or K band. It is amazing that, since most of us know that door openers operate only on X or K band, none of us ever noticed that Escort forgot to explain this in the 9500i user manual.
